Bugsnax is an indie title that was developed and published by a small studio called Young Horses. The title mixes together elements and vibes from games like Pokemon Snap and Viva Pinata to deliver a truly unique puzzle/adventure game. It was promoted by PlayStation heavily, as Bugsnax initially launched on the PS5 in 2020 as a PS Plus title. It also came to PS4 and PC, but fans had to purchase it at full-price to check it out.

Now that Bugsnax has been out in the wild for a couple of months now, it seems that Young Horses has a little bit of a hit on its hands, at least when compared to the studio's other well-known indie title, Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Even though Bugsnax received a lot of attention from being a free PS Plus title for subscribers, the co-founder and president of the studio has revealed that the game has reached a major milestone.

In a tweet that comes from Philip Tibitoski (president of Young Horses), he says that even though Bugsnax was free for PS5 PS Plus users for quite some time, the title has still managed to outsell Octodad's launch sales on PlayStation back in 2014. Even though Bugsnax has a lot of things about its story that's complete nonsense, it seems that the indie has garnered an audience that appreciates its silly nature.

Currently, Bugsnax is sitting at a decent Metacritic average of 75 (for the PS5 version) and the user score is at an 8.0. If Young Horses decides to one day create a sequel for Bugsnax, that score could possibly be a bit higher if the developers work on the issues that critics had with the original game. The team is already planning on creating even more content for Bugsnax, but time will tell if it ends up being downloadable content for the base game or if a sequel is in the works.

For those that have already completed the entirety of Bugsnax and have witnessed the bizarre ending that follows, it turns out that the ending was originally planned on being much darker, so maybe a sequel can pursue that route and have a more mature tone. It'll be less of a kid's game for sure, but it could really expand on the Bugsnax lore and give fans more content to sink their teeth into.

Bugsnax is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
