Bug Fables is a great third-party game that has flown under the radars of many gamers. Yet Nintendo fans, particularly those of the Paper Mario series, should enjoy it. From its opening hours, players will notice similarities between Bug Fables and Paper Mario, including its storybook aesthetic, whimsical soundtrack, and sense of humor. This carries on to its gameplay, as Bug Fables features turn-based combat, overworld puzzles and platforming, and of course a multitude of sidequests.

Much like in any other RPG, sidequests are the bread and butter of Bug Fables, rewarding players who go the extra mile with special gear, perks and abilities. Of course, not all sidequests are made equal, and some are definitely worth prioritizing over others.

10 I Want A New Taste

Giving the Hearty Breakfast to Chuck

This quest is generally helpful for the beginning of the game. It involves Team Snakemouth delivering a Hearty Breakfast to Chuck, an old hermit who lives just outside of Snakemouth Den.

Completing this quest rewards the Mighty Pebble Medal, which players can equip on Kabbu to grant him the Pebble Toss skill. Although it will always do 1 damage, Pebble Toss's main purpose is to give Kabbu an attack that can target flying enemies, as Kabbu is helpless otherwise.

9 Parts Delivery

Delivering the Parts to Eetl's Friend

Another great Medal to have early on is the Crazy Prepared Medal. Players can begin the quest as soon as they start Chapter 2 and are tasked with delivering some parts to Eetl's friend at Bugaria Pier.

Once completed, Team Snakemouth are rewarded with this medal. It prevents enemies from getting a first strike on the party when equipped.

8 Vi's Request

Vi Talking to Her Sister

Once Team Snakemouth reach the Bee Kingdom and complete Chapter 3, they can begin a story quest that involves Vi reconciling with her estranged sister, Jaune.

What follows is a long-winded fetch quest that culminates in Vi gifting some Red Paint to Jaune, finally putting aside their familial quarrels. Afterwards, Vi will unlock the Sharing Stash skill. This can hea  the entire party, along with curing poison.

7 Huuuuuuuuuu...!!!

Tanjerin Trying Their Best

Around the middle of the game, it becomes increasingly apparent that Kabbu's Pebble Toss isn't going to cut it anymore. Thus, it's better to just use Vi and Leif to defeat flying enemies. This is especially true as players will likely have acquired better skills for these two, leaving Kabbu to trail behind when it comes to flying enemies.

Luckily, completing Tanjerin's quest after escaping the Bandit Hideout rewards the Mightier Pebble Medal, which grants Kabbu the Boulder Toss skill. Not only does the Boulder Toss deal more damage, but it hits adjacent foes as well, making it a solid option for finishing multiple enemies at once.

6 My Speciality

Kut Preparing the Tangy Carpaccio

The player can start "My Speciality" as soon as Team Snakemouth reaches Defiant Root and unlocks one of the best healing items in the game. In order to complete the quest and unlock the recipe, players must deliver a Tangy Berry to Kut.

While the quest objective may seem simple, getting the Tangy Berry itself is a different story. They can only be obtained from the rare and difficult-to-defeat Golden Seedling enemy. Players can also buy them from a vendor in Metal Island, but this area isn't typically accessible until near the end of the game. Upon this quest's completion, Team Snakemouth will receive the recipe for the Tangy Carpaccio, which heals the entire party for 12 HP.

5 Seedling Hunt

Helping Takkun With His Research

After unlocking the submarine, players can talk to Takkun in one of the apartment buildings in the Termite Kingdom to begin this quest. He asks that they him with his research. To do so, the player myst defeat 50 Seedling type enemies. This can also include its variants, such as Underlings and Acornlings.

If players have been actively winning battles, they can complete this quest almost instantaneously. Upon completion, Takkun gives Team Snakemouth the Seedling Affinity Medal, which increases the likelihood of encountering a Golden Seedling to be 2.5 times more likely. This makes farming for Tangy Berries a much easier task.

4 A Smiling Dish

Giving Fry the Ingredients

Once players complete both "My Speciality" and "I Wanna Get Better!" they will unlock the quest "A Smiling Dish." Talk to Fry the fly in the Ant Kingdom, and give him both a Tangy Carpaccio and Crisbee Donut.

This will reward Team Snakemouth with the Queen's Dinner, one of the best recovery items in the game. It restores both 15 HP and TP and removes any status effects for the entire party. It's also essential for the following quest.

3 Team Snakemouth...

Offering the Queen's Dinner to Venus

Once players complete the quests "My Speciality" and "I Wanna Get Better!" they'll receive a request from Aria in the Golden Settlement to deliver a Queen's Dinner to Venus. Players must earn the recipe for the Queen's Dinner itself by completing a separate quest. As stated above, recipe requires both a Crisbee Donut and Tangy Carpaccio to make.

Trekking all the way back to the top of Golden Hills and presenting Venus with the Queen's Dinner will reward Team Snakemouth with the Prayer Medal. This reward heals a small amount of HP if the user skips their turn. Additionally, the healing cost for Venus Buds decreases from 8 to 5 Berries, yielding a decent amount of savings in the long run if players complete this quest early.

2 Leif's Request

Battling an Enemy in Upper Snakemouth

This is one of the most important quests from a story perspective, as it reveals much about Leif and his backstory. Upon defeating the boss of Chapter 4, Team Snakemouth will find a Peculiar Gem. It can be used in Snakemouth Den to unlock a previously inaccessible dungeon, complete with unique enemies and an optional boss.

Completing this dungeon awards players with the Frost Bowling skill for Leif. Players also gain access to important plot details, which they are best left to experience on their own.

1 Requesting Assistance

Battling Monsieur Scarlet

Throughout their journey through Bugaria, Team Snakemouth may come across rare Crystal Berries tucked away in various nooks and crannies. While they serve as a neat collectible, their actual use doesn't become apparent until the quest "Requesting Assistance" is completed. This quest unlocks access to the Underground Tavern.

Once the tavern is unlocked, Team Snakemouth can exchange their Crystal Berries for Medals. Additionally, they can also take on bounties for optional bosses and begin another important sidequest. Finally, they can buy the exceptionally rare Dark Cherries from a shady trader. This item is used in recipes for some of the best items in the game.
