Besides their music and their devoted fanbase, South Korean boy band BTS also have their own web series. Run BTS features the septet take on challenges related to the weekly theme in which they can earn rewards or be punished. The newest episode featured the League of Legends team of South Korean esports organization T1.
The 114th episode of Run BTS saw the boy band compete with and against T1 in a series of challenges including the popular drinking game (though there were no drinks) "Frying pan game," rock paper scissors with a toy hammer, and a singing game involving BTS' hits ("Idol" and "Boy with Luv") to sort the teams.
When it came time to the actual video games, BTS and T1 did not disappoint. First on the menu was League of Legends, where "Mundo Dodgeball" was played instead of a standard 5v5. After that, the mixed teams played What The Box?, a multiplayer shooter where boxes are playable characters carrying Stanley knives as weapons. T1 will appear in next week's episode of Run BTS where Gang Beasts and Fall Guys will be played.
The Bangtan Boys have previously spoken of their affinity for video games, including League of Legends, Overwatch, and StarCraft. The boy band have also admitted to being big fans of T1 and specifically Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok. On the other end, T1's Lee "Effort" Sang-ho is known to be a big fan of BTS, being a registered member of the official ARMY fanclub (known for creating fanfics with which BTS have made an official game for) and even dying his hair blue like V.
2020 has been a banner year for BTS, with the boy band releasing albums Map of the Soul: 7 and Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey to critical and commercial acclaim. The septet also became the first South Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100 with their first English-language single "Dynamite" (which also had its music video premiere on Fortnite) and later with their feature on the remix of Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's "Savage Love." Their latest album called Be is scheduled to be released on November 20.
As for T1, the South Korean esports organization recently added streamer Tyler "Tyler1" Steinkamp to their ranks as a content creator. The org is a joint venture between South Korean telecommunications operator SK Telecom and American sports company Comcast Spectacor. Besides League of Legends, the org also has Valorant, Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros. rosters.
