Evil Dead: The Game is a multiplayer horror game where a team of players sets out to take on the evil Kandarian demon and hordes of deadites to survive the night. Set in the Evil Dead universe, the game features characters from all over the series, including the first three films and the recent TV series.
Recently, the star of the Evil Dead franchise, Bruce Campbell hosted a new video showcasing gameplay footage of the latest game in the long-running horror series. During the gaming session, four players teamed up to take on Campbell’s son in the iconic cabin from the first movie.
In the video, four YouTubers - unCAGEDgamez, Matt Sohinki, Godzilla Mendoza, and Slash N Cast take on Campbell’s real-life son, Andy Campbell, in the 4 vs 1 multiplayer game. During the gameplay, the original Ash Williams, Bruce Campbell, offers witty remarks and questionable advice as players seek out a victory. On show are the team mechanics that highlight the different roles players can take as well as an in-depth look at the combat including over-the-top bloody finishing moves performed by some of the game’s 25 weapons.
During the video hosted by Bruce Campbell, the team is trying to secure a victory as Andy Campbell takes the place of the Kandarian demon. This invisible foe has to chase down the team to stop them from obtaining the book of the dead and swallowing their souls. To do this, the demon can utilize a number of tools. By summoning demons or possessing objects such as trees, the player has the ability to jump-scare the team into submission. Increasing the opponent's fear gauge can overwhelm players, allowing the demon to possess characters and turn them against their own team. Victory is declared when all four members of the team are downed.
Evil Dead: The Game aims to provide the perfect mix of horror, humor, and action that made the original Evil Dead trilogy cult classics. Bruce Campbell not only hosts the gameplay video but also leads the voice cast, many of whom are returning to their roles for the first time in nearly forty years. Coupled with the glut of weapons, demons, and locations that have been featured throughout the series, it is likely to satisfy even the most diehard fans of the series.
While the game might tick all the right boxes for fans, it remains to be seen how well it will perform to the wider public. The likes of Friday 13th: The Game and Dead By Daylight are already established in the multiplayer horror team-up arena, so Evil Dead: The Game will have to rely on more than Bruce Campbell and fan service elements to make an impact.
