A petition calling for YouTube's Brooke Houts to be banned begins to gather steam on change.org. Thousands of people have signed the petition to get Houts off of YouTube after being accused of animal abuse when she accidentally uploaded footage that showed her punching and pinning her dog to the ground.

In just two weeks, a change.org petition asking YouTube to ban Brooke Houts has gained more than 50,000 signatories. Nina France, the change.org user who began the petition, says that the "best outcome" would be for Houts' Doberman Sphinx to be rehomed. France also calls for the YouTuber to be charged with animal abuse and to be banned following the Los Angeles Police Department's investigation into Houts' behavior.

"Delete her channel, her videos, any reupload of her abuse, and never allow her to have a channel or any sort of influence ever again," writes France, who also says that Houts is violating YouTube's guidelines. France's statement also says that Houts' actions reflect "very poorly" on the site. YouTube has seen advertisers flee the platform because of issues with the content of videos, so not wanting to damage its reputation or relationship with advertisers further, this could be a convincing argument for banning Houts.

Thousands of change.org users agree with France. One user, named Angela Maracle, says that "Dog abusers should not have a social media platform." Another user, named Lauren Teune, says that people who "exploit and use animals" as they try to become a celebrity are "pathetic." Houts use of Sphinx in other videos has drawn huge criticism and Teune says that by banning the YouTuber, she'll be less likely to punish the Doberman for not performing correctly for a YouTube video.

The petition is gaining new signatures every few minutes and the next goal is 75,000 signatures. However, it's unclear how many signatures this would need to get onto YouTube's radar and if the popularity of the petition would have any bearing on the platforms' decision. When Twitch streamer Alinity was accused of animal abuse, there was also a viral petition that called for her to be banned from Twitch, though this proved to be unsuccessful. Signatories of this petition against Brooke Houts will be hoping that YouTube chooses to listen to their calls for a ban more.
