The upcoming Broken Pieces received a new trailer today during the IGN Expo, and the game looks like a blend of both Life is Strange and the Silent Hill series. Between the music, atmosphere, and overall gameplay, Broken Pieces' new trailer was reminiscent of both the aforementioned games.

Broken Pieces is an indie game currently being developed by Elseware Experience and is billed as a psychological thriller that takes place in a small village in France. A trailer for the game was previously shown at Gamescom 2020, and some gamers even had access to a demo build of the Broken Pieces.

The new trailer for Broken Pieces aired during a segment of the IGN Expo that focused on upcoming horror games. There is definitely a creepiness to the seemingly abandoned town, the exploration of which looks very similar to Silent Hill 2. Then the music and narration resembled the style of Life is Strange, especially the first seasons and its prequel. It is a combination of elementals that seem to work well together as the trailer has a mysterious atmosphere. Whether this is simply coincidence or both games were inspirations for the developer remains unknown, but there are clear similarities.

Interested gamers will have to wait a little bit longer to play the game, though, as the trailer for Broken Pieces revealed a vague release date of Q2 2022. However, this is not too surprising as the game comes from an indie studio and a small team. Projects like Broken Pieces can take a lot of time, even for larger studios. So it is worth letting the developers take their time to realize their vision for the game. Luckily for horror fans, plenty of other scary games were revealed during IGN Expo. Also, Life is Strange Remastered is coming out in just a few months for those looking for some mystery and teen angst.

Still, Broken Pieces' potential combination of both Silent Hill and Life is Strange is very interesting and worth keeping an eye on. It is also important to remember that the game still has its own identity. While possible inspirations behind the game are visible, it also has its own unique style. In particular, the environments of the village in which the game is set in are well realized. Whether or not Broken Pieces will win any awards for indie games is unknowable, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on for any horror fans.

Broken Pieces will release in Q2, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
