No one will ever forget their first Pokémon. And truly dedicated fans will never forget the first Pokémon that fell into the lives of their favourite characters from the beloved animated television series. The Pokémon that started it all and sent our friends out on their quest to be the very best. Like no one ever was.

In this article, we will be ranking the first ten Pokémon that the character known as Brock acquires in the show. They will be ranked based on ability, aesthetic, usefulness, and personal preference (note: this preference is entirely subjective and may vary from fan to fan.) Let's start off with the well-known fan favourite, Geodude.

10 10. Geodude (Second)

Geodude was the second Pokémon that Brock acquired. When we meet the character of Brock in the start of the show, this Pokémon is already in his possession. Geodude earned the tenth spot on our ranked list due to the fact that he is a rather basic starter Pokémon.

Though he can use the rock-throw ability (which can come in handy when the situation calls for it,) he is a rather common Pokémon and not as interesting as some of the other creatures on our list. Geodudes also have a number of vulnerabilities which make them rather frustrating to use in a fight.

9 9. Sudowoodo (Eighth)

Sudowoodo is the eighth Pokémon Brock added to his team and is a favourite amongst those who love tree-shaped objects. However, the Pokémon falls a bit flat to most fans of the series and some accuse it of being nothing more than a gimmick.

Yes, it is rather entertaining that this tree-shaped creature is actually made of stone. But the simple fact is that this Pokémon does not have much else going for it aside from this neat little illusion. Sudowoodo's are also known for fleeing when the rain begins to fall (though, oddly enough, it does favour overcast weather,) which can make them rather unreliable in battle.

8 8. Chansey (Tenth)

Chancey is the tenth Pokémon Brock brought along for the ride. Though we would normally place our beloved Chancey much higher on a Pokémon ranking list, in this case, the competition was rather fierce and caused her to fall down a few slots in order to make room for some of the more powerful members of the team.

Though Chancey is utterly adorable, we love her based on her abilities rather than her looks. Her healing abilities, as well as her unexpected strength, make her an asset to any team in which she is a member of. However, her weakness to fighting makes her a bit of a liability when it comes to the battling aspects of the Pokémon world.

7 7. Ludicolo (Sixth)

Ludicolo was the sixth creature added to Brock's roster. While Ludicolo isn't going to win any beauty contests any time soon, the Pokémon was still a valuable member of the team and one of our personal favourites. Since Ludicolo has rather limited weaknesses, one can use him in many different situations without worry.

Acting as a bit of comic relief, Ludicolo was the centre of several jokes that had us clutching at our sides. But the heartwarming storyline which included him being released by Brock and sent to return home to live with Brock's family is what sold us on this lovable little guy.

6 6. Marshtomp (Seventh)

Though Brock and Marshtomp were not to keen on each other after their first meeting, a daring and heroic event bonded them and, after that, the two of them were thick as thieves. Marshtomp was the seventh Pokémon to join the team.

Marshtomp has the ability to use what is known as "mud-shot". Which is a move that is compromised of the Pokémon shooting mud at his enemies. Not only does this cause them damage but it also slows them down and makes it much more difficult for them to complete their attacks successfully. Although one should avoid using Mashtomp against Grass Type Pokémon as they are his main weakness.

5 5. Crobat (Third)

Though many fans seem to be quite wary of the bat type Pokémon, Brock's Crobat (who was third to join the team) is one of our favourite of the early additions to his team. The Crobat is one of the fastest Pokémon (which could be due to the fact that it has an additional set of wings) and is surprisingly tall. The Crobat stands at nearly six feet tall and can weigh up to 165lbs on average.

This Pokémon's main ability is known as 'inner focus.' This is a defensive maneuver that allows the Crobat to protect itself against attacks that would cause it to flinch and affect its own attack patterns.

4 4. Vulpix (Fourth)

The Vulpix is one of the most universally beloved Pokémon on this list. From its adorable fringe to its beautiful Peacock-style tail (which emerges if its owner treats it with genuine love and kindness,) this creature is a thing of beauty. But that is not the only thing it has going for itself.

The Vulpix, who was fourth to join Brock's team, has mastered the ability known as 'flash fire.' This ability allows the Pokémon to power up their own fire type moves. Be careful using them in wet environments, though, as they are weak to water.

3 3. Croagunk (Ninth)

Croagunk was the ninth Pokémon to be added to Brock's roster. This Pokémon has a frog-like appearance and is known for its numerous poison sacs (which disguise themselves as his rosy cheeks.) It is important to note that his fingers are also poisonous.

Luckily, this highly toxic Pokémon is rather short. Standing at just over two feet tall and weighing no more than fifty pounds, on average, this toxic little fellow is much less intimidating than he would be if he were comparable, size-wise, to the Crobat.

2 2. Forrestress (Fifth)

The Forretress, which was the fifth Pokémon Brock added to the team, is a rather fascinating creature. With high defense and attack stats, this little fellow is not someone you would like to be put up against in battle.

The biggest asset that this Pokémon can bring to the team is the fact that it is truly sturdy. One cannot one punch this creature. Its hardy shell prevents such things from happening and keeps the Forretress safe from overpowered Pokémon.

1 Steelix (First)

The Steelix was not only the first Pokémon Brock brought onto the team, but it also earned the top Pokémon spot on our list. This Pokémon has truly impressive stats, with its defensive abilities being nearly off of the charts.

This marvelous creature has two abilities at which it excels. The first being its hardy nature. This ability is known as 'sturdy' and it prevents the Steelix from being taken down in a single turn. The second ability is known as 'rock head.' 'Rock head' allows the Steelix to protect itself against the damage that can come from moves which include a recoil feature. Truly a beloved asset to the team and number one in our hearts.
