Today, Bethesda and Splash Damage released a new trailer titled A Choir of Guns, which shows off the incredible amount of character and weapon customization they have put into their upcoming FPS, Brink. This trailer demonstrates the variety of weapons and weapon customization players should expect to see when this game releases.
One thing that can be gathered right off the back is the level of detail in map design. The trailer begins in an industrial area, and moves its way to the center of a quite nice looking ship. The game looks great graphically, and is truly beautiful to admire.
A Choir of Guns gives us a glimpse of a scene where the player’s character is holding a shotgun as he turns a corner inside a building. After the turn he sees and enemy and in completely awesome fashion, proceeds to slide on the ground towards him and shoot him in the chest for a cleanly executed, acrobatic display of badassery.

The trailer above shows us shotguns, chain guns, pistols, sniper rifles, auto rifles, SMGs, and China Lakes. These are just a few of the guns that will be able to support full customization of attachments. These attachments appear to follow a similar structure to other game’s weapon customization options. From the glimpses we got to see, we know that iron sights, red dot sights, gun grips, different camouflages and cross-hair sights will be included, and in all likelihood we’ll see some other familiars, like the silencer and extended mag.
Let’s talk character customization. The people over at Bethesda and Splash Damage have obviously realized that character customization is a must nowadays, especially when they’re trying to sell a game that directly competes with the wildly successful Halo and Call of Duty franchises. In both games of those games, character customization is already a relatively robust experience.
Brink has a laundry list of customization options, from weapon attachments to a variety of different threads to wear, there will always be a gratifying way to mow down the enemy, and also look great while doing it. Brink seemingly allows players to customize a whole heap of clothing options. Wear a long-sleeve shirt, or a sleeve-less shirt if you prefer. Give your character a mask to wear, or maybe even a bandana to tie around his head. How about giving him tattoos, or a larger or smaller body build? All of these things appear to be completely customizable.
A headline feature of the game has got to be the new S.M.A.R.T. movement system that will allow players to seamlessly travel across any kind of terrain. That means no more three foot tall fences denying characters passage. No more getting stuck on steps players can’t see. Hallelujah, someone is listening our frustrated FPS fan critiques! This brings an awesome new element to the genre that hasn’t really been touched on a lot.
At the Eurogamer Expo 2010, we at Game Rant got some time to catch up with Paul Wedgewood, the CEO of Splash Damage and Game Director of Brink, for an interview on the background of the story, and the revolutions this game would bring to the FPS genre.
Paul enlightened us by letting us know that Brink takes place the year of 2045, on a ship titled The Ark. Floating out in the ocean, the Ark has for some reason lost contact with the rest of Earth. The ship has become home to two opposing factions, which resemble something along the lines of organized governmental faction vs. some sort of rebel faction. The game is playable from either side.
