Bright Memory: Infinite is far from the average FPS video game. While the visuals of Bright Memory: Infinite may lead players to believe their jumping into a big-budget AAA game, in actuality, Bright Memory: Infinite was developed by just one person, on an extremely limited budget. Originally released in Steam Early Access in 2019, Bright Memory was an incredibly short, but very intriguing game, getting the developer some cult-level recognition in the industry. Rather than move on to a new project, the developer decided to double down, and remake Bright Memory, adding more content and mechanics, rebranding it as Bright Memory: Infinite.
Released in November of last year, Bright Memory: Infinite was met with some divisive reviews. While the gameplay was praised heavily by critics, complimenting the FPS mechanics for their satisfying and intuitive controls, the game's short runtime was heavily criticized. Despite the shaky reception, Bright Memory: Infinite is heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in just a few weeks' time, on July 21, 2022. Players will be able to judge the game for themselves, and they'll soon be introduced to the game's protagonist, Shelia, and her range of supernatural abilities.
Who Is Bright Memory: Infinite's Shelia?
Set in the year 2036, Bright Memory: Infinite sees a number of mysterious rifts open up around the world. Despite their best efforts, scientists cannot explain the phenomenon, and are forced to create the Science Research Organization. This organization sends out agents across the world, who soon discover that these rifts are the result of an ancient piece of technology, a weapon that the SAI, a ruthless military organization, are hunting.
Bright Memory: Infinite puts players in the shoes of Shelia, one of SRO's global agents, tasked with single-handedly stopping the SAI, and putting a stop to this unknown threat. While this task seems like an impossible one, Shelia is no ordinary secret agent. Equipped with a katana, a slew of weapons, and a plethora of supernatural powers, Shelia is more than capable of taking down the SAI, and saving the world.
From the get-go, Bright Memory: Infinite gives players a range of abilities to use, each one giving the game more variation, and making the combat feel more rewarding. Over the course of the game, players will unlock new abilities for Shelia, ranging from simple levitation powers, to full-on Force Push abilities that launch opponents across the map. These supernatural abilities are used in tandem with Shelia's katana and firearms, resulting in some fast-paced, complex combat.
Some of the most intriguing abilities in Bright Memory: Infinite include a Tractor Beam power, which drags enemies towards the player, allowing them to be used as human shields, an Aerial Slash, which propels Shelia forward while cutting down opponents in her way, and a Shock Punch, which knocks back enemies. On top of that, Shelia's katana can be upgraded with a variety of ranged, and close-quarters abilities, resulting in gameplay surprisingly reminiscent of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
As players progress through Bright Memory: Infinite they'll unlock four different firearms, ranging from a shotgun, to a burst fire pistol, to an assault rifle. Though the arsenal is incredibly simplistic, using these weapons in tandem with Shelia's powerful abilities leads to some very satisfying gameplay moments. The entirety of Bright Memory: Infinite can be completed in just a couple hours, but its intricate and varied combat system makes the experience a memorable one.
Bright Memory: Infinite is available now on PC and is set to release July 21, 2022 for Nintendo Switch (via Cloud), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
