Actor Brendan Fraser recently sat down for an interview at GalaxyCon where he shared a few details regarding his character in the upcoming DCEU film Batgirl on HBO Max.

In a recent video posted to YouTube by user Cristy Worley, Fraser sat down for a lengthy Q&A during GalaxyCon Raleigh. During the panel, Fraser answered questions from fans and discussed his career and current projects, including the next season of the HBO Max series Doom Patrol, which was renewed for a fourth season in 2021. Fraser also talked about his role as DC supervillain Firefly in the upcoming Batgirl movie. "Ted Carson is the character's name. It's misprinted in the media, I have noticed that" Fraser said "It's a new character, it's a new day. He's quite cross, he's a veteran whose benefits have been cut, so he wants to burn Gotham to the ground. And Batman and Batgirl are there to stop him. Or are they?"

Created by France Herron and Dick Sprang, Firefly made his comic book debut in Detective Comics #184 in June 1952. He was initially portrayed as a criminal who used lighting effects to commit robberies. He was later re-imagined as a more sociopathic pyromaniac with an obsessive compulsion to start fires. Based on Fraser's comments it seems that the character will once again be reimagined with a new backstory.

While details about the upcoming Batgirl movie have been sparse, Fraser does hint at some interesting developments. The fact that Firefly will be portrayed as a veteran who's been driven to crime by a lack of benefits hints at the character being more sympathetic than in previous incarnations. Fraser even teases that Batgirl and Batman may sympathize with the character's motivations.

While Fraser has been acting for decades, he's had a bit of a resurgence in recent years. The actor is best known for his roles in the 90s including comedies such as Encino Man and George Of The Jungle and the popular action-adventure film The Mummy. Sadly, his career took a bit of a downturn due to many personal reasons, and for a while he was largely absent from the industry. Now Fraser has made a big comeback, starring in acclaimed shows and movies including DC's Doom Patrol, and Steven Soderbergh's crime film No Sudden Move. He has also been cast in several big upcoming movies, including Martin Scorsese's next film Killers Of The Flower Moon, and in the lead role in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming film The Whale.

Batgirl is expected to premiere on HBO Max sometime in 2022.
