Brawlhalla received a new update that added characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender to the game. Update 7.01 also brings other collaboration-themed content, new features, bug fixes, and general improvements.

Free-to-play Brawlhalla was released worldwide in October 2017. The 2D platform fighting game follows the Super Smash Bros. formula, with options for team, free-for-all, custom, and normal matches. The characters, called Legends, have their signature moves, weapon combinations, and stats. Over the years the game has received some characters through collaborations, such as Rayman, Ezio from Assassin's Creed, and the characters from The Walking Dead TV series, including Rick Grimes and Michonne. Announced in early November, the collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender will turn Brawlhalla players into controllers of the elements.

With the crossover, Aang, Toph, and Zuko join the Grand Tournament as Epic Crossovers costing 300 Mammoth Coins each. The characters have unique weapon skins, signature FX, unique lock-in animations, and dedicated roster spots. The trio didn't come alone, however: the collaboration includes Appa Sidekick, Momo Emote, and emojis featuring Katara, Sokka, and Suki. Even the Cabbage Merchant appears in a new KO effect. Players who log into the game during the event will receive The Tale of Iroh avatar. The Castlevania event introduced content to the game along the same lines.

Brawlhalla update 7.01 includes other Avatar: The Last Airbender-themed content such as the new Western Air Temple in free-for-all and 1v1 modes, splash art and interface theme, and music themes from the main menu, character selection, and victory theme. The new Brawl of the Week, which brings different game modes each week to Brawlhalla, is the Air Temple Skirmish, where players face off in 3v3 three-minute battles where the team with the most points wins. The event also includes a daily bonus of 250 Gold to celebrate the crossover.

The rest of Brawlhalla update 7.01 brings improvements that make bots smarter and more challenging. Bots will now have a greater awareness of their attacks, surroundings, and hitboxes. For Offline and Custom lobbies, players will now be able to pick the Legend for their bot and select the difficulty level. The update also made it easier to understand the rules of each game mode, and a more intuitive preferences menu explains what each setting does. The new features are ideal for those who want to become better in battle in Brawlhalla.

Avatar: The Last Airbender joins the list of Brawlhalla crossovers that also includes other famous names like Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tomb Raider, Kung Fu Panda, and Ben 10. Events of this kind are a good way to attract an audience that is still unfamiliar with a game or even to motivate players to return. Avatar: The Last Airbender ended its run in 2008 but is still remembered fondly by fans of Aang & co, which increases the chances that the collaboration will be well received.

Brawlhalla is available now for mobile devices, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
