Brawlhalla has always been a game of many faces, crossing over with a diverse range of franchises including the Walking Dead, Ben 10, and most recently Kung Fu Panda. The 2D fighting game continues to build a thriving community with regular tournaments where skilled players have the chance to earn substantial prizes.
There is a vast library of mods available for Brawhalla and with all the available character skins, weapon packs, and alternative arenas, players are free to customize their game however they want it. A lot of popular mods add new player characters, many of which are cameos from other popular games, TV shows, and commercials.
How To Install Mods For Brawlhalla
The best place to search for mods is either Nexusmods or Gamebanana.com. Many files can be simply downloaded and dragged straight into the player's main Brawlhalla folder, requiring no installation at all. Once players have located their steam library on their hard drive, they can click on "Steamapps" and then "Common" to find the local files for Brawlhalla. Mods will only work if they are compatible with the latest version of the game, and they cannot be used on mobile devices or consoles.
While some mods are banned from tournaments and competitive play, purely cosmetic skin swaps or audio replacements are all perfectly legal. Uninstalling mods is as simple as deleting them from the game files. However, after players do this, they should right-click on Brawlhalla in Steam and go to "Properties". This mod replaces the head on the Ronin Koji skin with the familiar pixilated visage of Steve from Minecraft. Since this character is less graphically pleasing than other skins, the overall effect of Steve brandishing a katana in martial arts robes is quite amusing. This mod also recreates the in-game animations to include Notch's blockheaded hero.
9 Fight Epic Battles In Stardew Valley
The official Brawlhalla Mods website is mainly full of alternative maps for veteran players who want to spice up their game. Some of the unique map skins available include subterranean caverns and futuristic cityscapes, although some players may enjoy the quirky juxtaposition of battling against the idyllic backdrop of Eric Barone's Stardew Valley.
Not only does this map look epic, with 2d, pixel art based on the classic light farming sim, but it also includes music from the game. Players may enjoy the contrast of making Lara Croft fight John Cena against such a tranquil background.
8 Replaces Swords With Lightsabers
Many of the characters in Brawlhalla fight with their bare fists, or claws in some cases. However, many of the avatars can also wield weapons, one of the recently added characters carries both a blaster and magical orbs making for a devastating combination.
A mod designed by RiTiN allows players to swap most sword-shaped weapons with lightsabers. Jedi fans will appreciate this mod for the addition of lightsaber noises every time the character strikes and the ability to choose any color of saber they want. Sadly this mod does not allow lightsabers to deflect projectiles like they do in the films.
7 Battle Against An Epic Sunset At Shipwreck Falls
Some maps in Brawlhalla are easier to master than others. A solid tip for new players would be to avoid maps like Shipwreck Falls, where there is only a single platform, as it is much easier to get knocked off the map. For other players, this map creates an exciting challenge where combatants jump on top of and off each other as they furiously try to dominate the small arena.
The walking simulator Firewatch doesn't seem like the best fit for a fighting game. However, Shipwreck Falls looks even better when placed against a stunning auburn sunset. Even Brawlhalla fans who have not played Firewatch will appreciate this mod for its gorgeous aesthetic and music.
6 Replace Diamio With Chester The Cheetah
With so many available characters and weapon combinations, players can easily experiment with different builds to find out what works best. Mordex may not be the best legend in Brawlhalla, but he certainly has some of the funniest reskins.
If players have the Diamio skin for Mordex from the game's Hellboy crossover, they can mod it to add a flaming hot cameo. Chester the Cheetah is a character from Cheeto commercials, and ironically he also makes a great addition to Brawlhalla. Players can change Chester to be any color they want and even give him a top hat in this amusing joke mod.
5 A Crossover Mod That Replaces All Of The Game's Maps
Certain mods are not compatible with each other, but many are capable of co-existing, meaning players can create unlikely combinations of characters and backgrounds for their own personalized experience. Before downloading any files, players should double-check that they are compatible with the latest version of Brawlhalla, as otherwise, they won't work.
Hollow Knight fans will enjoy this map pack which swaps all the levels with areas from the classic 2D adventure game. As well as new maps, a different mod enables players to take control of the titular insectile warrior himself. Using both downloads, players will have all they need for the perfect Hollow Knight crossover.
4 An Updated 2B Character Mod
The modding community for Brawlhalla is still very active. As well as new mods being made every day, fans are also constantly updating old mods so they can be used on more recent versions of the game.
This character mod to add 2B from Nier: Automata was originally made by a user called Stompman. After one of Brawlhalla's updates made the mod obsolete, it was quickly resurrected with more detailed animations. This skin can be applied to numerous different characters meaning players will have to unlock various different skins to make it work.
3 A Fresh Soundtrack To Enjoy While Brawling
While Brawlhalla excels with its balanced combat and sizable character roster, some fans may find its soundtrack to be slightly lacking. While the game's selection of fight music is not terrible, it is not particularly memorable either; in fact, some players may prefer to listen to their own playlists instead.
A modder called MattRoszak decided to try and fix this problem by replacing the game's OST with a better one composed of tracks from his favorite games. This alternate soundtrack is easy to install and adds epic songs from various games including Bullet Heaven, and Rivals of Aether
2 Color-Coded Jump Animations
Being a free-to-play game, Brawlhalla regularly attracts new players, although for some the learning curve can be a steep one. Trying to focus on platforming, dodging, and attacking all at once can quickly become a challenge. Legends can jump over incredible distances, and often a player will think they have knocked their opponent off the ledge, just for them to jump back on again.
One thing that can help is knowing when a player has used their double jump, as after this they will be unable to leap again until they have landed. Thankfully a mod has been made that color-codes the jumps to clearly indicate which one a character is doing. While this mod is illegal in any tournament setting, it can be a very useful tool for new players to get to grips with the game's mechanics and improve their own skills.
