In an interview with Digital Spy, The Boys' star Karen Fukuhara who plays Kimiko Miyashiro AKA The Female responded to showrunner Eric Kripke's regrets about how he handled her character in the first season.

Previously Kripke expressed his regret about The Female's storyline saying "one of the things that I wished I could have done better in season one was to give Kimiko more of a voice. I think we stumbled inadvertently into a little bit of a trap. There's the stereotype of a quiet Asian woman, and I was very conscious of not wanting to do that."

When asked about Kripke's comments, Fukuhara replied "Even in season one I felt like Kimiko's storyline really propelled the boys' actions. And knowing her back story through Mesmer really fueled the boys and what they were gonna do. So I didn't really feel as though Kimiko was forgotten storyline-wise but it was obviously a delight to see that she had even more of a bigger role in season two and I just love how it's so different from the comics."

Fukuhara continued  "I mean she is this silent killer, she's pretty badass in the comics but nobody really knows why she does what she does and there's no reasoning behind why she's so violent. So I really love that [Eric Kripke] delved into her insane past, her family members coming in and then her growing relationship with Frenchie. She's definitely not forgotten. And I'm really appreciative that Eric and the writing team put so much thought into building Kimiko this season. I'm really grateful."

Fukuhara also had her role cut down dramatically in the final cut of David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie and expressed her ambition to explore Katana's backstory but she won't be returning in James Gunn's upcoming sequel.

The Boys is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
