Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's magnum opus Naruto and follows the story of Boruto Uzumaki, the son of the Seventh Hokage of Konohagakure, Naruto Uzumaki. The series is set in a peaceful era where wars don't exist anymore, and the world is largely much better than before, all thanks to Naruto Uzumaki. Although peace exists throughout all the major shinobi villages, the story opens up on a rather grim note, where Konohagakure appears to have been utterly destroyed and two characters, namely Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki, stand amidst it all.

Boruto Uzumaki goes on to say that the age of shinobi is over and, by the looks of it Kawaki has a lot to do with that. However, the exact events aren't known to the fans because the story quickly goes back four years in time to the beginning of Boruto Uzumaki's journey as a ninja. With that, it was clearly established that there is certainly going to be a timeskip in Boruto, however, the question remains, when will Boruto enter its timeskip?

When Will Boruto Enter Its Timeskip?

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is certainly not going to be as long a manga series as its predecessor, Naruto, meaning events like entering the timeskip are likely to happen sooner rather than later. Having reached nearly 70 chapters already, Boruto is quite possibly either halfway or more done, especially given that the author, Ikemoto has previously mentioned that he intends to end the around at around 20 volumes. Given that Boruto is quite close to its end, it's no surprise if the manga is actually quite close to entering its timeskip.

At the same time, the ongoing events in the story also strongly indicate that Boruto is edging closer to its timeskip. With Isshiki Otsutsuki having died already, all focus has already turned to Kawaki, who has inherited his real powers through a weaponized Karma reintegrated into his body by none other than Amado. Meanwhile, Boruto Uzumaki has already Otsutsukified 100%, meaning he has the power of Momoshiki in his body already. These are, without a doubt, great developments for two of the most important characters in the series and are the biggest indication that the timeskip is rather close.

At the same time, Boruto's previous chapter also gave fans a decent look at the other members of Team 7 and even the likes of Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki, all of which have a personal need to grow stronger to be able to fight those of the Otsutsuki. With Boruto and Kawaki having pulled ahead already, the likes of Sarada and Mitsuki need to catch up, while Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha need to find ways to make themselves relevant in terms of the fighting once again. All this can perfectly be tackled with a timeskip integrated into the story sooner rather than later. With all that said, it looks as if Boruto's timeskip is almost upon the fans and could perfectly be integrated in the story after the Code Arc.

What The Timeskip Means For The Story

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will likely be entering its timeskip quite soon and that certainly means big things for the overarching plot of the story. For one, fans will see the likes of Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki train hard to get to the level of Code, who is currently the strongest character in the entire story. As things are, they stand absolutely no chance against the monster that he is and would need guidance from someone strong, preferably someone like Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, or even Kashin Koji to get them on the same level as Code.

At the same time, the timeskip would pave way for Sarada Uchiha to awaken new powers, such as her Mangekyo Sharingan. Given that Sarada rarely gets time in chapters, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that her biggest power-ups can come offscreen which, while incredibly sad, is the truth of the matter. Aside from Sarada growing powerful, Mitsuki could gain tremendous might as well. With Orochimaru's help, fans could see him become much stronger and catch up to the likes of Boruto and Kawaki.

Furthermore, the timeskip could also mean great things for both Naruto and Sasuke as the two certainly need to get stronger to live up to the expectations of the people and the titles that the both of them carry. Most importantly, the timeskip would mean that Boruto would start to get closer to the prologue that fans for to see, where both Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki engage in a fight against each other amidst a destroyed Konohagakure. Fans have been at the edge of their seats to know the full truth of the situation and only a timeskip can answer all the questions related to the tragedy that seems to have befallen Konohagakure in the future.
