Boruto has been running for a couple of years now, but it hasn't gotten the chance to truly shine in the video game world. As such, it is time for Boruto to get its own Naruto Ninja Storm game, as there is plenty of new content that would make for a good adaptation that simultaneously progress the Ninja Storm franchise.

In fairness, Boruto has had some video game appearances already. In anticipation of the Boruto anime, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 featured the Road to Boruto DLC expansion, which retold the events of the Boruto movie and added Boruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, and later the Otsutsukis as playable characters. There is also Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, which as the name indicates, features content from both Naruto and Boruto, although it definitely prioritizes the former. As exciting as it is to unlock the Sharingan in Shinobi Striker for your player character, the game concentrates more on this referential customization option than actually adapting the series' content.

Boruto's Story is Ready for Adaptation

In the past, the Naruto Ninja Storm games adapted the series' story as it was progressing, to varying degrees of faithfulness. Looking back at the original Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, this game loosely follows the events of the original anime, making gameplay out of that run's largest moments, and ignoring some of the less exciting content. Conversely, in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, the game's adaptation caught and surpassed the anime, featuring a different conclusion for the Fourth Great Ninja War arc. It would not be until Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 that the anime's conclusion would be properly adapted.

Seeing how previous games either loosely adapted, fully adapted, or told their own stories, there is no reason then for Boruto to not get its own full experience. The anime is now well over 200 episodes, with dozens of new characters that would be really exciting to play as. While a lot of these episodes may seem unimportant to some, a "Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm" game can take the route of the first Naruto one, with the game adapting the major moments while skipping over the lesser ones. Likewise, the Naruto legacy characters don't have to disappear, either; if the game gives them skins for both their Naruto and Boruto looks, it would be brimming with playable characters.

Boruto Can Evolve the Ninja Storm Formula

One way to make an antagonist super imposing is to give them an ability that completely cancels those of the protagonist. This is exactly what has happened in Boruto, as the invasion of the Otsutukis presents the greatest challenge Konaha and the rest of the ninja world have seen. These ruthless alien invaders are the progenitors of the series' famous Chakra system, being able to absorb the Chakra from jutsus used against them, like Naruto's Rasengan or Sasuke's Chidori. It may not be the strongest of anime abilities in general, but it is certainly one of the strongest abilities in the Boruto universe.

A Boruto adaption must somehow include these characters, but in a gameplay scenario they would pose a tremendous mismatch, as they would become practically invulnerable. However, if they were tweaked so that their Chakra absorption was a timed ability like any other characters and not a passive one, there could be a whole new level of strategy to the gameplay. There are only a couple of characters currently who this would apply to, so it may not totally up-end the formula. Still as more abilities are introduced, like the Karma seal and definitely more Otsutukis, this will be something that must be considered. Boruto is both similar and different to Naruto, and his Ninja Storm game should be the same way.

A Boruto Ninja Storm game is not known to be in development.
