The biggest news to come from Gearbox's PAX East 2019 panel was undoubtedly the reveal of Borderlands 3. However, the company also gave some love to its past Borderlands games as well, confirming a remastered version of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, as well as a big update coming to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

As announced by Gearbox, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will receive its ultra HD update on on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This update will add PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, allowing gamers to experience both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel with better graphics than ever before.

Unfortunately for those hoping for more robust changes to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, next week's update doesn't seem like it will be adding much beyond improved textures and lighting. However, the Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remaster will actually see some gameplay improvements, including the addition of shift codes and a reworked final boss fight.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Borderlands 2 aren't the only Borderlands games getting 4K makeovers next week. Borderlands 2 VR is also getting a 4K update, and will receive all the Borderlands 2 DLC expansions added for free this summer. Gearbox seems dedicated to Borderlands 2 VR, and it will be interesting to see if the improved experience draws in any new players.

Really the only Borderlands game that didn't get some attention during Gearbox's PAX East 2019 panel was Tales from the Borderlands. The point-and-click episodic adventure game from Telltale released to widespread critical acclaim for its strong character development and story, but it's not getting any remaster treatment. It's possible that Telltale's closure has something to do with it, or it could be that Gearbox doesn't see value in remastering Tales from the Borderlands, as it's relatively new compared to other games in the Borderlands franchise, and was developed by another studio.

Tales from the Borderlands aside, most of the Borderlands franchise will be playable in 4k resolution beginning next week, and that could give fans some motivation to play through the series again in anticipation of the highly-anticipated Borderlands 3.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
