Gearbox's PAX East event was packed full of Borderlands announcements including a Borderlands 2 4K update free DLC release for VR, as well as the highly anticipated reveal of Borderlands 3. Caught up in the mix but no less exciting is that the original Borderlands will be receiving a major update and remaster. Even better, this Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is releasing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 3, with an automatic free PC update coming to current owners at the same time.
While Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford was able to bring out some of the developers working on the project, the trailer was never fully shown. Luckily, the trailer was soon released to YouTube for all to view.
The Borderlands: Game of the Year trailer showcases some of the great action and humor of the original game. More than that, it confirms all of the content and new features to be included in the package. The base Borderlands game and its four big DLC releases are included, along with 4K resolution support and other visual upgrades, new weapons and character heads, as well as support for Shift codes including gold chests and keys.
Small quality-of-life changes to gameplay will also be made in the Borderlands: Game of the Year release. For example, the remaster adds a mini-map toggle like in Borderlands 2, automatic health and ammo pick up, and the game's notoriously frustrating inventory will be optimized.
PAX East presentation hiccups aside, it has been a very good day for Borderlands and Gearbox. The original Borderlands is getting overhauled and re-released on PS4 and Xbox One, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are getting visual updates, and Borderlands 3 development has officially been confirmed. Even a tabletop game named Borderlands: Tiny Tina's Robot Tea Party was revealed. If only Tales from the Borderlands got some love, too. Expect much more Borderlands-related information in the months to come, with all eyes set on E3 2019 in June.
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on April 3, with a free PC update (including all DLC for those who don't own it) coming as well.
