The Baroness Secret DLC Character

Since the first game, the Borderlands franchise has established a pattern of DLC expansions that, when compared to an average title, provides extra value and content to the base game. In fact, some of Borderlands' best experiences have come, not from the main campaign, but from the DLC expansions.

With the release of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has come new expectations for DLC, which developers Gearbox Software and 2K Australia have already confirmed is on the way. Well before release, in fact, the studios announced that The Pre-Sequel would get the usual bevy of content – specifically four expansions and one new character.

However, one clever gamer has actually discovered that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's DLC plans might extend even further than that. This gamer in question has found an extra unannounced character buried in the game's code, leading to speculation that The Pre-Sequel's final roster might be six characters not five.

All we know at this point is that a character called Aurelia The Baroness is referenced within the game's code. Moreover, Se7enSins community member TechnoJacker has discovered a character image for The Baroness that lends further credence to her existence as DLC.

But, with no confirmation from 2K Games it's hard to evaluate how The Baroness fits into the larger Borderlands picture. It could be that The Baroness was once a main line Vault Hunter option for the game before being cut. Or she was a surprise announcement meant for after the game's first DLC character, Handsome Jack's Doppelganger, released.

Whatever the case may be, it appears 2K Australia has been caught red-handed with some content on-disc. So, if they do reveal the Baroness as DLC down the line, gamers may not take too kindly to the idea of paying for a character that has been part of the retail product since launch.

As far as what type of character The Baroness might be; that's up in the air. We have to give 2K props for bucking the trends (potentially) featuring three playable females and one robot in their game, and if Aurelia is real we can't wait to find out what kind of whacky abilities she has.

Would you like to see The Baroness join the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel roster? What type of class do you think she is?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is out now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
