Ever since the original Borderlands, the open world shooter’s action has been followed up with plenty of additional content. Borderlands DLC packs gave players a break from vault-hunting with the distractions of a zombie infestation, a robot revolution, and fearsome arena battles. Borderlands 2 was no different, with additional content including the Captain Scarlett and Mr Torgue campaigns alongside the game’s original story.
Since then, the lore of Borderlands and its planet of Pandora has taken a shift. Tales from the Borderlands by Telltale Games offers a vastly different take on traditional Borderlands gameplay, coming from a developer who many see as amongst the top storytellers in the industry. The original shoot-and-loot firefights of the main series have also been continued with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which bridges the gap between Borderlands and Borderlands 2.
The Pre-Sequel itself is also no stranger to additional content. We’ve already seen 2 DLC packs, which brought players The Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack and the new challenge area of the Holodome Onslaught pack. Now, a third DLC pack has been announced. The DLC pack was revealed by Gearbox Software at PAX South 2015 and later at the Gearbox website, and is titled The Lady Hammerlock Pack. The additional content will allow players to take on the role of Lady Aurelia Hammerlock, the older sister of Sir Alistair Hammerlock.
The addition of Lady Aurelia Hammerlock brings yet another vibrant character to the world of Pandora, joining the ranks of blood-raging berserkers, raven-controlling hunters and phase-walking sirens. Lady Hammerlock appears to live up to her noble title – with a few issues with aggression to iron out. According to Gearbox Software, Aurelia is “the heir of the Hammerlock family fortune,” but takes great pleasure in “hunting the greatest game in the galaxy,” It doesn’t sound like Aurelia and her brother Sir Hammerlock have the greatest of relationships – in fact, it’s stated that it’s “all the better” if her exploits put her in conflict with her younger brother’s expeditions.
Just how will Aurelia the Baroness play, though? The sniper’s special skills include the ability to adopt another teammate as a personal servant, which gives Aurelia bonuses for their kills as well as her own. Her skill tree also focuses her energies on ice damage, with the talent to give any weapon additional Cryo damage. Her action skill itself is also ice-focused. Cold As Ice lets the noblewoman throw a Frost Diadem Shard that automatically seeks out enemies and then deals constant damage to the target, moving on to another target if the first one dies.
Players looking forward to the new character do not have long to wait. The Lady Hammerlock Pack will be available on 27 January, and will cost $9.99. The fourth add-on pack is also in progress. Gearbox has revealed that the pack will take players to a new campaign inside the mind of Claptrap, and the developer warns that the pack “may be one of the weirdest things in the Borderlands universe to date.”
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is out now for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Mac and Linux.
