Video game movies may not often be very good, but that hasn't stopped Hollywood from releasing new ones on a fairly consistent basis. One of the upcoming video game movies that will hope to buck the trend of poor video game film adaptations is the Borderlands movie, which is in development at Lionsgate. Whether or not that movie ever comes actually materializes remains to be seen, but that hasn't stopped Borderlands 3 fans on Reddit from casting characters for the film.

Inspired by an initial post that suggested Ryan Reynolds should play Rhys in the Borderlands movie, another Reddit user has put together their casting picks. They've selected Karen Gillan for the role of Lilith, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the role of Brick, Margot Robbie as Tiny Tina, Johnny Depp as Mordecai, Olivia Munn as Maya, and Kate Upton as Mad Moxxi.

Other Borderlands 3 fans threw in their opinions on the casting as well, with some thinking that Dave Bautista should play Brick instead of The Rock. Glenn Howerton from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, aka Dennis Reynolds, was also a common suggestion for the villainous Handsome Jack in a theoretical Borderlands movie.

While no casting news has been announced regarding the Borderlands movie, it should be noted that Gearbox Software has voiced its own opinion about some possible casting choices. More specifically, Gearbox Software creative director Paul Sage has suggested that The Rock should play Claptrap in a potential Borderlands film adaptation, which would be an amusing casting choice to say the least.

The Borderlands film has been in various stages of development since 2015. It was then that Lionsgate announced it was producing the Borderlands movie as a tentpole film with Avi and Ari Arad, with a script is being penned by Aaron Berg. The Borderlands movie is aiming for an R rating, but no other details have been revealed since its announcement.

As of the time of this writing, the Borderlands movie doesn't have a director attached to it, let alone any roles cast, so it remains to be seen when it will come out. It will be interesting to see if any of the roles cast for the Borderlands movie line up with fan suggestions.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
