Sirens are people with extraordinary powers and abilities in the Borderlands franchise. The lore behind Sirens has caught the attention of Borderlands fans from the different Siren abilities to the fact that only seven can exist in the universe at one time.

A Siren's abilities are also either passed on to a successor of their choice, or the powers are scattered throughout the universe for someone else to find. Elaborate tattoos on a person's body identify whether someone is, in fact, a Siren. There have been several sirens throughout the Borderlands games, all with different abilities and power levels. Some of them are villains, and some of them are good guys.

10 Commandant Steele

Commandant Steele Borderlands

Almost nothing is known about Commandant Steele being a Siren except for the fact that she was one. Commandant Steele was the main antagonist for the first Borderlands game. Steele was an officer within the Crimson Lance, a private military force trying to stop the Vault Hunters from reaching the Vault.

The only thing that informed people that she was a Siren in the game was the fact that she had significant tattoos on her body. She never used her Siren powers, so it is unknown which Siren ability she actually had.

9 Ava

Ava was the apprentice of Maya on the planet, Athenas, in Borderlands 3. Maya was training her to become a Siren, although she had not received her tattoos and/or Siren abilities. She doesn't become a Siren until after the Vault Hunters defeat Troy Calypso, and Ava touches him to receive the ability.

Ava's Siren ability is Phaselock, which means she can lock almost anyone or anything in place, preventing them from moving. She uses this ability to save herself, Lilith, and Tannis from Tyreen's attack.

8 Patricia Tannis

Tannis was a member of the Dahl Corporation before the company abandoned their expedition to Pandora, stranding her on the planet. It is not revealed that she is a Siren until Borderlands 3, most likely because she had not received her Siren powers until that installment. Tannis possesses the Phaseshift ability. She uses this ability to finish off Pain and Terror along with their Agonizer 9000 robot.

7 Angel

Angel is a Siren that has made an appearance in Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Angel served as the characters from the first game's "guardian angel", guiding them through the game's story. She plays a larger role in the second game when it is revealed that the game's antagonist, Handsome Jack, is her father.

Angel has the Phaseshift ability, which means she can instantly interact with the technology of any network. Handsome Jack exploits her powers to charge the Vault key for the Vault of the Warrior. Normally, the Vaults on Pandora only open every two hundred years. However, Jack uses Angel's powers to speed that time up, letting him open the Vault sooner.

6 Nyriad

Eridian Writings and Zane Borderlands 3

While players never meet Nyriad in person throughout Borderlands 3, she remains a fairly powerful Siren in the series. Nyriad was a Siren who lived amongst the Eridian people, an ancient race of aliens that were presumed extinct.

She had the Phaseleech ability, which meant that she could leech the life force from any living thing. Nyriad uses her powers to perform a mass genocide of the Eridians. She leeched the lives of the Eridians and used their life force to seal the Destroyer in the Vault on Pandora.

5 Troy Calypso

Troy Calypso is one of the Calypso Twins who are the main antagonists of Borderlands 3. Troy and Tyreen were conjoined when they were born, but Troy was less developed than Tyreen, making him a "parasitic" child.

When Tyreen developed her Siren powers, so did he. Troy gains much of his power from Tyreen. Troy possesses the Phaseleech ability, and he uses it to take Maya's power. He drains Maya's life force, killing her, and temporarily takes her Phaselock ability. He becomes a powerful boss in Borderlands 3, wielding immense power.

4 Tyreen Calypso

Tyreen is the other of the Calypso Twins and the main antagonist of Borderlands 3. Tyreen co-leads a cult with her twin brother, Troy, that has a large following. Their goal is to harness all the power of the Vaults and become gods.

Tyreen tries to accomplish this by using her Phaseleech ability to leech the life force of the creatures within the Vaults. She uses her Siren ability to steal Lilith's Siren powers. Towards the end of the game, Tyreen becomes incredibly powerful and merges herself with the Destroyer within the Vault on Pandora.

3 Amara

Amara is one of the playable characters and a Siren in Borderlands 3. Even without her Siren powers, Amara is a very powerful fighter. Amara has the Phasetrance ability, which allows her to manifest transparent human body parts around her.

She mostly uses large fists. Amara has three abilities within her Phasetrance that she uses interchangeably on the battlefield: Phasegrasp, Phasecast, and Phaseslam. Phasegrasp is a large fist that holds an enemy in place for a short time. Phasecast is an astral projection sent forward, dealing damage. Phaseslam is an attack where Amara jumps up and slams down, dealing damage in a small radius.

2 Maya

Maya has the Phaselock ability. She uses her ability to hold enemies in place while in combat. While they are held in place, Maya can use her Phaselock to deal damage to the held enemy as well as surrounding enemies. Maya is one of the strongest Sirens due to her assistance in destroying the Warrior, a powerful Vault monster and Eridian superweapon summoned by Handsome Jack.

1 Lilith

Close up of Lilith Borderlands 3

The first Siren to be introduced in the Borderlands series is Lilith. Lilith is a playable character in the first game. She makes an appearance in every main Borderlands title. Lilith has the Phasewalk ability which she uses to her advantage on the battlefield.

She is one of the Vault Hunters who defeated the Destroyer. Handsome Jack also briefly uses her Siren powers to charge the Vault key for the Vault of the Warrior. The biggest display of Lilith's powers was at the end of Borderlands 3 when she sacrificed herself to stop Pandora's moon, Elpis, from crashing into the surface of the planet.
