Borderlands Level Cap Increase Coming Soon

Gearbox announced at PAX that a free update to their critically popular Borderlands would raise any current player's level cap by eight points.

Gearbox Software has hit a home run when it comes to getting into gamers’ good graces. Not only is the company putting forth a ton of effort with their future projects, like the newly revealed Duke Nukem Forever, but they are always keeping players of their previous game, Borderlands, satisfied by providing them with new content. The developer has recently announced that a new free update will increase players’ level cap by eight points.

Previously, if gamers had purchased the DLC 'The Secret Armory of General Knoxx' the level cap was 61 and if no DLC had been purchased then they were left at the retail verson’s cap of 50. It is from either of these two numbers that the additional eight points will be added depending on what, if any, DLC has been purchased.

Since this update comes with no purchased DLC, Gearbox decided to keep the level increase lower than what they had previously provided. Though it isn’t an 11-point boost, this new level cap increase does not require gamers to own any of the previously released DLC to reap the benefits. Instead, by making the update free, Gearbox is rebalancing the game across the board.

With a planned release around October 12^th, it looks like this update is a planned dual release with the upcoming Game of the Year Edition of Borderlands. And since the Game of the Year Edition comes prepackaged with all of the game's DLC, new adopters will have a lot of exploring and leveling to do.

As one of Game Rant’s best of 2009 picking up this game in any capacity is strongly recommended. Gearbox has proven themselves to be a developer that is constantly considering the needs of their audience. With 'Clap Trap’s New Robot Revolution' it looks like all the pieces of the “complete game” are in place allowing gamers to max their level cap in one solid playthrough.
