There's no doubt that Borderlands fans are keeping their fingers crossed in hopes of a possible third entry in the first-person shooter series being in the works, as Gearbox Software could potentially provide an official Borderlands 3 announcement PAX East next week. Until then, though, a listing from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) possibly indicates fans of the first entry in the franchise could wind up getting their hands on a Borderlands: Game of the Year edition for current generation hardware in the near future.

According to a recent rating spotted on the ESRB's website, a Borderlands: Game of the Year edition will be coming out for the Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platform at some point down the line. Should this be the case, then the listing is further evidence of such a product's existence, as there had been a previous leak of Borderlands: GotY's PS4 trophy list about a month ago.

For those unaware, Gearbox Software has previously put out a Borderlands: Game of the Year edition for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 several years ago, with the GotY version for last-gen hardware including all four DLC add-on packs released to date. With this being the case, it's safe to presume that the potential Borderlands: Game of the Year edition on the horizon would contain all of the expansion content, too, in addition to certain graphical enhancements as well.

So, assuming that the latest ESRB listing for Borderlands: Game of the Year edition is accurate, then this would be the first instance of the original game in the series making its way onto PS4 and Xbox One. Interestingly enough, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which included Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, came out for the two consoles in 2015, but the first game in the franchise was excluded.

All things considered, should this listing for Borderlands: Game of the Year edition on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One be legitimate, then it's safe to presume plenty fans will be excited to revisit Pandora once more on Sony's and Microsoft's latest consoles. With any luck, Gearbox Software will provide more details on the matter during its PAX East panel next week, on March 28, 2019.

Borderlands: Game of the Year edition has yet to be officially announced, but is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
