The unique art style and designs of the Borderlands series has long inspired fans to dedicate fan art projects to the games, especially around the playable characters available to control from title to title. One fan in particular has recently looked at some key Borderlands characters from different parts of the franchise to create a whole series of pieces showcasing these designs.

This newest set of Borderlands fan art comes from artist Plates & Oatcakes on Instagram, who posted the full, completed set through their Reddit as Old Biscotti. Many fans of this artist would recognize the style of this set from their previous work of making icons related to other pop culter and video game franchises that has been an ongoing, daily series across their various social media accounts.

These most recent pieces depict the player characters from the first and third Borderlands titles, though the artist has drawn other characters from the series before. The icons themselves come across as a simple design that accents each piece with a bit of flair relevant to each of these playable characters. For example, Borderlands 3's FL4K comes with one of his signature pets, while Lilith from the original game is bordered by firey phoenix feathers to match her persona as the Firehawk.

While it doesn't appear that the artist has a full set of the playable characters from Borderlands 2, some characters introduced in that specific entry are among their wider collection of icons. So, fan favorite characters like Tiny Tina, Handsom Jack, and Zero have icons, but the full cast from that title doesn't seem to have been completed. However, the list of characters that have been reimagined as these icons is already extensive, and if the artist is still looking to the Borderlands series, it likely won't be long before they've covered more characters.

At the end of the day, while collecting the guns in Borderlands might be the draw that keeps players signing into different games in the series, the characters are a much larger appeal for bringing players to the series in the first place. With such unique designs across both the playable and supporting characters, there are plenty of places from the franchise to take inspiration for a new art piece. So, thanks to the thriving fan community around the series, there will likely be plenty more pieces like this to come, and hopefully more games to go with all of that passion.

Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
