There are a lot of interesting characters to be found in the Borderlands series. One noteworthy character is a boss in Borderlands 2 that’s also a playable Vault Hunter in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel, Nisha.

Bandit killer, former Vault Hunter, and Sheriff of Lynchwood, Nisha has lived quite a life with a disturbing childhood, questionable career, and one of the most sadistic personalities you’ll meet, which is saying quite a bit for a Borderlands character. Here are some weird facts about the law enforcer Nisha that you may not have known.

10 Night Tree

Whenever the player kills multiple enemies Nisha will say, “The name’s Nisha! Ms. Kadam if you’re nasty!” revealing her full name to be Nisha Kadam. In Hindi Nisha is translated to ‘night’ and Kadam is Indian for ‘tree’, thus making her full name ‘Night Tree’ when translated.

It’s unclear what the significance of this is or if it’s possibly an Easter Egg. Some fans suspect it may have something to do with why she named her town Lynchwood, though it’s also unclear what the connection might be.

9 Her Mother Unintentionally Trained Her

Growing up Nisha’s mother was incredibly abusive. When she wasn’t yelling things at her daughter her mother would be hurling various items in an effort to harm her. Over time Nisha was able to hone her reflexes to catch the various items being thrown at her.

There’s no telling how long it went on for, but one has to imagine that Nisha would’ve grown tired of the abuse and done something about it. Given her twisted personality, it probably didn’t go well for her mother. It may also explain her obsession with upholding the law, at least her own version of it.

8 Puppy Bit By Frenzycrutch

While her mother was abusive her father was loving even if he was a coward who wouldn’t stand up to his wife or protect his daughter. At one point he bought Nisha a puppy. The way Nisha tells the story they were outside walking when a Frenzycrutch came out of the tall grass and bit her puppy, the dog’s eyes went red and its lips turned blue, but it seemed alright otherwise.

It wasn’t until later when one of her mom’s projectiles accidentally hit the animal that it went wild with rage and bit Nisha in the neck. Nisha was forced to put it down with a shovel and has had a hatred of puppies ever since.

7 Bandit Who Kills Bandits

After leaving home Nisha quickly built up a reputation for killing bandits. She had a passion for going after political leaders who were also bandit leaders, though the reason why is unknown. It’s also unknown if something motivated her to get into this line of work or if it was one of the few socially/legally accepted ways to kill someone and that’s why she started.

In any case it was how she caught the attention of Jack who described her reputation as the “Bandit who kills bandits.”

6 Robbed Six Bandit Camps And A Convent

During the mission Marooned Springs in the Pre-Sequel, Springs mentions that she heard Nisha had once robbed six bandit camps and a convent. Unsure why Nisha would have also attacked a convent full of nuns she asked her.

Nisha casually justified the act saying, “In my defense, those nuns were d***s.” There’s no further elaboration on what the nuns did to her if anything. Some fans postulate if she might have killed her mother and ended up in a convent as an orphan and her animosity stems from those experiences, but it’s entirely speculation.

5 Hates Cats

In the Follow Your Heart mission Nisha is tasked with creating inspirational posters and hanging them up. After putting up the first poster she states that it would have been much cooler if she were standing on a “dead bandit. Or kitten.”

Later when she spots a cat poster she seems disgusted by the image and states, “Ugg. Wanna snap its neck.” It could be in relation to her hatred for puppies or it may be that her sadomasochism prevents her from liking something cute like a kitten. She also comments to Jack 2.0 when he uses his Action skill that she enjoyed watching an animal shelter that burned down.

4 She’s A Sadomasochist

Various comments throughout the Pre-Sequel point to Nisha’s sadomasochism or enjoyment of causing and receiving pain. Whenever she’s idle in the game she has a chance of saying, “God, I’m bored. Wanna choke someone or get choked. I try not to be picky.” She’ll also express interest in being harmed, giggle when harming others, and generally show a zeal for getting in fights or killing something.

If there was any doubt she’ll give this humorous, albeit disturbing line when joining a game, “Nisha here, available for mercenary work, S&M, and birthday parties.”

3 Romantic Relationship With Handsome Jack

Over the course of the story in Pre-Sequel Nisha and Jack will flirt with each other now and then. Whenever Jack 2.0 uses his Expendable Assets skill Nisha will comment on how good looking all the duplicates are.

After the events of the Pre-Sequel  Handsome Jack and Nisha have decided to become something of an item. By Borderlands 2 the relationship isn’t as hot and heavy as it used to be, but Jack has trusted Nisha with her own town called Lynchwood custom-designed to resemble old western towns.

2 Enacted 200 Laws For Lynchwood

After being made sheriff of Lynchwood Nisha ruled over the territory with an iron fist. She came up with over 200 laws for the residents to follow with a punishment of death if any of the laws weren’t observed.

She seems to thoroughly enjoy acting as judge, jury, and executioner in her small town and has fully embraced the western sheriff persona. Though she doesn’t seem interested in maintaining true order as she shuts down rumors that Lynchwood will become civilized like Opportunity. Perhaps it’s because doing so would remove the conflict and violence she enjoys.

1 Her Badge Was Made By Eridians

The last weird fact about Nisha is that the badge she wears was actually crafted by Eridians. The Eridians were an highly advanced alien race that died out millions of years ago leaving behind their Vaults full of technological wonders.

It’s not clear if Nisha obtained this badge from the Vault on Elpis during the Pre-Sequel¸ if Jack gifted it to her when they created Lynchwood, or if it was acquired through some other means.
