Borderlands 3 is the exciting, new chapter in the Borderlands series. With a crew of characters to choose from, and several skill tree options for each of those characters, it can be difficult to pick the best builds.

While many new players have been looking into recreating Flak's insane boss-killing build, there are tons of people absolutely in love with Zane the Operative's weird and wonderful powers. Each of his skill trees is unique, making him fun to play. Here's a quick guide into the best builds for each combo.

What are Zane's Skill Trees?

Borderlands 3's Zane the Operative has three skill trees; players can use up to two to make Zane their own. The three trees are:

Doubled Agent - Doubled Agent allows a player to teleport, create a clone of themselves, and then load up the battlefield with tons of grenades. Some of the upgrades for this build add stacking grenade damage, reduced grenade cool downs, and spawn a clone. Since some grenades are considered the best weapons in Borderlands 3, they might not be a bad choice.

Hitman - The Hitman skill tree focuses on Kill Skills and being the best mass murderer Zane can be. These include skills like increased weapon swapping and a killer drone called the SNTNL.

Under Cover - The final tech tree is all about barriers. Barriers can do one of two things; they can either boost defenses and give out buffs or they can ramp up the damage enemies take. Barriers can even do elemental damage on contact.

Favorite Builds for Each?

While Zane isn't considered a great character for first-time players, many of his builds are great for solo play and skilled players. These are some favorites that players can try for themselves.

The first is the Doubled Agent and Hitman build. This build is about being the most efficient at killing as possible by doubling Zane and sending both into combat with heightened Kill Skills and increased damage. The build looks like this:

Next is the Under Cover Hitman build. This focuses a lot on the Under Cover skills and some Hitman skills, allowing players to act like a professional killer while under the cover of their barriers. These barriers will not only protect, but also add buffs. All this while the drone carries grenades to the battlefield to explode the competition. These buffs paired with some of the early-game legendary weapons make for crazy damage.

Last but certainly not least is the Doubled Agent/Undercover build. While this is not the best build in the list especially if players are farming Borderlands 3 bosses, it is certainly a unique take on Zane's skill set. Forgoing damage boosting, it's more for the cautious player. The shields are set to max, cutting down on damage, removing elemental damages, and buffing the player's way out of just about any situation.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
