Borderlands 3 has been releasing shift codes at a seemingly faster rate than its predecessors, but these shift codes also have a much shorter shelf life. The latest Borderlands 3 shift code was released earlier today on Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford's official Twitter account, letting players snag a free Golden Key on PC, PS4, or Xbox One. However, those who want to use the latest Borderlands 3 shift code will have to act fast.

The new Borderlands 3 shift code expires at 10pm CST later tonight. That means those interested have roughly three hours to redeem the new Borderlands 3 shift code and claim their free Golden Key. This is a bit more time than Borderlands 3 players have been given to claim some of the other recent shift codes, but it's still a fairly small window of opportunity.

The new Borderlands 3 shift code for a free Golden Key is 5SWTJ-BBW93-SWJ55-B3BJ3-5BH99. Players can redeem the code either in-game or on the official Gearbox Software website. After they've redeemed the shift code, the next step is to check their Borderlands 3 mailbox, which is accessible through the pause menu. When that's done, players simply have to use the key on the Golden Chest and claim their rare loot.

The chest in Borderlands 3 can be found aboard the Sanctuary III spaceship, and it's placed in a way that players have to pass it to get to places like Moxxi's bar and Marcus's shop, so players should know exactly where to go on the ship to find it. Upon reaching the chest and using the key, Borderlands 3 players will be rewarded with a rare weapon of some kind, though we should note that this isn't exactly the best method for farming rare loot in the game.

While Gearbox has nerfed some of the best Borderlands 3 loot farming spots, players can still battle some of the game's bosses repeatedly to farm for loot. If they play on Mayhem 3, then Borderlands 3 players will have a much better shot at being rewarded with rare loot drops as well, so players should keep that in mind.

And in case anyone is happening upon this Borderlands 3 shift code for September 28 a bit too late, it's not all doom and gloom. New Borderlands 3 shift codes are released semi-constantly, and if the previous games in the series are any indication, fans can expect Gearbox to keep releasing new Borderlands 3 shift codes for years to come.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
