Borderlands 3 has been out for about a month already, and today Gearbox released a large patch that addressed many of the problems reported since the game's release. The new patch has coincided with an update that officially kicks off the Borderlands 3's Bloody Harvest Halloween event across all available platforms for the game.
The patch brings fixes to a whole host of stability and bug fixes; nothing too gigantic, but tweaks that players should appreciate nonetheless. Gearbox also gave a little insight into future plans for updating Borderlands 3, including more modes and a bank increase.
When it comes to this patch, the effort lies in the details: one of the biggest changes instated is an adjustment of the 2K and Gearbox logo intro movies' volume when starting up the game (so players no longer have to mute headsets to avoid bursting their eardrums). Also added were fixes for several reported instances of the game crashing, new Vault Hunter customizations and trinkets, and corrections for a few combat imbalances and weapon bugs; the Flakker weapon has been altered to consume one ammo rather than five.
All in all, it hasn't been the most eye-catching patch in terms of flashy new additions to the game, but it does herald both the Halloween event's arrival and greater things to come. When everyone's main menu suddenly adapts a spooky new theme, they'll know that the Bloody Harvest content is ready to play.
While reporting the patch notes for today's update—which are posted in whole on Gearbox's website—the company also shared its upcoming plans. The Borderlands 3 community has consistently requested expansions to the game's bank, and Gearbox is responding to that wish; an upcoming patch in November will include an expansion to the bank that more than doubles the existing storage space for items. The patch will also revamp Mayhem Mode, eventually adding new levels and rewards, and introduce a number of character buffs for those underperforming in the aforementioned mode. Plus, Gearbox has promised it is already working on a way for players to bypass cutscenes if they choose.
So while today's update may not be terribly exciting (besides the Halloween antics, of course), it's good to see Gearbox listening to the Borderlands 3 community right from the get-go. Thankfully, it looks like that spirit will carry into future updates, too.
