Not that long ago, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford floated the idea on his Twitter of a second year of DLC for Borderlands 3. The wording suggested that nothing serious was involved and that it may not reflect the first year of DLC, but many were indubitably excited. This actually caused a resurgence in Borderlands 3 fans asking for Vault Hunter DLC, but it seems that Gearbox has opted for the next best thing instead.

During its PAX Online presentation, Gearbox announced Borderlands 3 would be getting PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades later this year. It's not going to be on par with the current story campaign DLCs (so temper expectations), but this paid add-on will include a brand new game mode as well as a brand new skill tree for every Vault Hunter in the game. This means that players will be able to re-spec Amara, FL4K, Moze, and Zane to test out brand new builds as they challenge themselves more and more.

Unfortunately, Gearbox was quiet on what exactly that new game mode is and whatever every new skill tree will look like, but it did offer fans a look at one of the new ones: FL4K's new Trapper skill tree. Their action skill dubbed Gravity Snare seemingly takes a page from Amara's Siren handbook, as it is a deployable trap that will toss enemies into the air, but then it will slam them back down. It interrupts their attacks, giving FL4K a crowd control skill that can potentially be modified and changed based on the skill tree.

Unlike his other skill trees, this one is focused on crowd control and shields, while offering a new level of survivability for his pets. Speaking of, the new skill tree also gives FL4K an interesting new pet: a Hyperion Loaderbot. As players progress down this new Borderlands 3 Skill Tree, players will be able to spec this Loaderbot in three different ways.

It can become an ION Loader, an electricity-based ranged-build that creates shock novas, or it can become a BUL Loader, which moves into melee range to either knock enemies into the air or roundhouse kick them. The latest build sounds like the most interesting (and potentially overpowered) as it is the WAR Loader, and it uses an incendiary shotgun, can throw grenades, and unleash homing missiles. Although this is the only new Skill Tree Gearbox has shown so far, it seems promising for the other Vault Hunters as well.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
