Earlier this year, Gearbox Software released Borderlands 3 to strong fan support, making it one of the most successful games in the franchise and for 2019 overall. But now that some time has passed, many are wondering what is next for the world of Borderlands 3.
The good news is that Gearbox Software has already revealed that Borderlands 3 will receive its first expansion called Takedown at Maliwan's, but outside of that information is few and far between. However, fans have started to analyze previously revealed marketing in an attempt to find out anything more about the DLC.
One element that many fans speculate could be part of the Takedown at Maliwan's DLC is a new vehicle. In the below image of Borderlands 3 vehicles, there is a tank-like transport that has yet to be seen in Borderlands 3. Some suspect that this vehicle could make an appearance during Maliwan Takedown, even if it’s just for a short sequence.
Speculation goes back and forth over whether the tank is Maliwan or Atlas in design. Given that the storyline behind Takedown at Maliwan's involves an Atlas-led assault on the Maliwan company, it makes more sense that players would gain access to the tank through Atlas.
Others seem to believe that the design of the tank lends itself to a different Borderlands 3 DLC. There are rumors that a future add-on will feature a casino as part of its main story component, and some believe that the tank better fits that theme. Tanks and gambling aren’t exactly two topics that blend together, but Gearbox Software loves its juxtapositions.
It’s also possible that the image was simply early art for Borderlands 3 that features some content that was inevitably cut from the game. It’s very common for players to look at early art and wonder why an item isn’t in the game, and usually, the answer is that the developer removed it. This tank could be one of those things that Gearbox Software decided to cut somewhere in development, but the studio still wanted to use an image of all the vehicles to promote the new transportation options that would be in the game.
If nothing else, there is a very obvious hole in the vehicle selection menu in Borderlands 3 that is just waiting to be filled with something. Whether it’s this tank or a different vehicle added in a future DLC, fans can look forward to catching a ride in something new before the game’s content plans are complete.
