Borderlands 3 Lets Players Mail Loot to Friends Even When They're Offline

borderlands 3 co-op

During an E3 2019 panel for Borderlands 3, an exciting new feature was revealed that will make putting together a group of Border-friends all the more rewarding. The new feature will allow players to mail loot, weapons, grenades, and otherwise, of all rarities to their friends. Even better, players can mail loot to their friends even when their friends are offline. Add it to the list of changes Gearbox is making to Borderlands 3 to make it friendlier overall.

Being able to mail items to friends in Borderlands 3 is going to be extraordinarily helpful to a range of different players. Co-op players playing in the same match can trade items without having to meet up face-to-face or breaking down item statistics. Just drop the item in the mail and let the friend sort it out at their own pace. Offline item delivery will be helpful, too. Friends who may be too busy to play the game regularly but still want to help each other out can send items at their own pace.

Trading items is just one way Borderlands is improving with regards to loot sharing. Its been previously confirmed that Borderlands 3 will employ instanced looting, so all loot drops will be reserved for yourself. This prevents both ninja looting from more selfish players and tedious loot sorting for players more likely to share. Now all players can get their own loot and then share via mail as they please. Gearbox will also provide an option for classic shared loot, for those who prefer the competitive element of it.

For the most part, Borderlands 3 players are probably going be so buried on loot that they won't even think about trading or sharing items. But there's always one item that drops that's just perfect for a friend's build, and now players will be able to make sure that friend gets it.

borderlands 3 fist bump

As exciting as the new features are, Borderlands 3 isn't exactly the perfect game to share with friends. The new features are great, but it's also reasonable to note that the game being exclusive to the Epic store is going to prevent a lot of PC gamers from grouping up with their buddies. And also, it would have been amazing if Gearbox could have used Epic's Fortnite tech to implement cross-platform play, but that's officially not happening. Baby steps.

Borderlands 3 releases September 13 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
