Borderlands 3 offers millions of weapon variations for players to use, from assault rifles to shotguns and sniper rifles to pistols. At the center of the gameplay loop are Legendary drops, with Legendary Pistols standing out as some of Borderlands 3's most appealing handguns– but with so many weapons in the game, ones are actually best?

One could test each weapon individually, but that takes hours and hours of constant grinding. Let someone else compile that info. Discover which legendary pistols are the best at dishing out damage and which ones should be avoided if you aren't looking to collect them all.

10 Best: Hellshock

The Hellshock is a great pistol because of its effectiveness against health and shields. It always spawns with the shock and fire elements that can be switched between. It also has the added bonus of ricocheting bullets in the opposite element. When using the shock element, all of the ricocheted shots will be fire and vice-versa. This makes for an effective strategy when dealing with a lot of enemies. The Hellshock also boasts an extremely fast fire rate which sets it apart from many of the other pistols.

9 Worst: Night Flyer

The Night Flyer is probably the worst legendary pistol in Borderlands 3. Its special effect makes it so that it can't actually kill any enemies. It makes for a good joke, but it doesn't help the player at all, and constantly needing to switch to another weapon to finish off enemies is not helpful. It actually makes using this weapon a real annoyance. This weapon is dropped by Rackman for anyone looking to not kill their enemies.

8 Best: Dastardly Maggie

The Dastardly Maggie is a revolver that fires six bullets at one time in a concentrated cone. It has a decent fire rate and can tear through enemy health pretty quickly. It is best used on Fl4k who can cause each hit with this weapon to be a critical hit. While it isn't the best gun overall, it is much better than a lot of other pistols and can still be used in the high mayhem modes to inflict decent damage. It can consume ammo rather quickly, but when it pumps out damage as fast as it does, ammo loss shouldn't matter.

7 Worst: Superball

The Superball is a Maliwan pistol that is pretty amusing to use but doesn't make for a good weapon. It fires off small balls that bounce around and even has a sound effect that sets it apart from other guns.

Moze and Amara have abilities that make this gun slightly better, but it ultimately doesn't have the damage output that other pistols have. This weapon always comes with the incendiary element on it and can even hurt you. It can be used with an Elemental Projector artifact so there is at least a little use for it.

6 Best: Love Drill

The Love Drill is a legendary pistol that got added during the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC and is one of the best for critical damage. The special ability of this weapon adds a bullet to its clip each time you land a critical hit. Against bosses where it is easier to land critical hits, it's possible to continuously hit them and never run out of ammo (with steady aim). This weapon is also great to use with Fl4k's Fade Away ability since it turns every shot into a critical.

5 Worst: Magnificent

The Magnificent comes with a lot of bonuses. It boasts fast reload times, a high magazine size, and even an extremely fast fire rate. The problem with this pistol is that the damage output just isn't there. With the number of bullets needed to take down enemies in higher difficulty modes, it makes the weapon useless. This is a real shame because Moze players who use the infinite ammo tree could benefit from a pistol like this. If they buff this gun in a future update to make it more powerful, it may end up being useful.

4 Best: Hydrafrost

The Hydrafrost is a bit of an annoyance to farm but it is well worth it. It drops from Shiverous the Unscathed which is a spawn enemy on Xylourgos. This pistol always drops with the cryo element but has the ability to add two-hundred percent shock or incendiary damage to its shot for six seconds after killing an enemy. This is extremely useful for taking down shields and health, plus the cryo element has the added bonus of freezing the enemies. Since it is also a COV weapon, you never have to worry about reloading it either.

3 Worst: The Flood

The Flood is probably the fastest firing weapon in Borderlands 3. It is a fully automatic revolver that is powerful at close range but cannot be handled well at a distance. The fast fire rate makes it hard to land critical hits and consumes ammo much faster than most other pistols.

The increased fire rate of this weapon also decreases the overall damage that this weapon can dish out, making it less useful than most other legendary pistols.

2 Best: Lucky 7

The Lucky 7 was added during the Moxxi's Heist DLC and has since been a very sought after weapon. It is an unpredictable gun that, with each reload, changes the type of bullets it fires. It has the capability to fire explosive rounds, all critical rounds, and even elemental rounds. It also has a chance to enter full auto mode which makes it fire extremely fast. The best part about this weapon is that each of these abilities can stack and has the chance to get multiple effects at one time. This gives the Lucky 7 the ability to deal insane amounts of damage.

1 Worst: Infinity

The Infinity was a fan favorite weapon in Borderlands 2. When combined with the right build, it could deal consistent damage that couldn't be done with other weapons. In Borderlands 3, however, they decreased the damage a bit too much to compensate and it can easily be outperformed by many other legendary pistols. There are a few builds that make the weapon useful, but it just doesn't have the damage output it needs. Hopefully an update will increase its performance and make it a great weapon again.
