Borderlands 3 is chock full of content for players to explore, from hilarious sidequests to unique guns like the Rick and Morty shotgun. However, another detail that the self-touted original looter shooter franchise is known for is its allusions to popular culture, and perhaps one of the most notable Easter eggs connects FL4K the Beastmaster to King of the Hill's eccentric Dale Gribble.

Dale Gribble is no stranger to memes, with several of his sayings, expressions, and interactions constantly being used in them. Recently, there's been a small revival in the Pocket Sand meme that sees Gribble use sand found in his pocket to "defend" himself. This occurs in King of the Hill Season 6, Episode 2: Soldier of Misfortune, when Gribble attempts to take a briefcase from a man, and now plays a role in Borderlands 3.

One of FL4K the Beastmaster's skills on their Hunter tree is dubbed Rakk Attack and sees the robotic Vault Hunter summon Rakks to attack and harass their enemies. Occasionally, when this BL3 skill is activated, FL4K will utter some small phrase, one of which is "Pocket Rakks," likely alluding to Gribble's "Pocket Sand" moment.

Of course, there is the possibility that this is not mean to be a BL3 Easter egg for Dale Gribble, but it's hard to imagine what else it could be. It doesn't seem likely that FL4K genuinely keeps the Rakk in their pocket, especially given the summoning animation, so it doesn't fit logically with the situation. Plus, it fits with the typical Borderlands MO of having connections to pop culture.

Speaking of, another notable pop culture reference in BL3 has to do with the ever-growing battle royale trend in gaming. This takes the form of a battle royale sidequest in Borderlands 3 titled Kill Killavolt. Those who enjoy playing battle royale games such as PUBG, Fortnite, or Apex Legends ought to check it out, perhaps while playing as FL4K to hear their Dale Gribble Easter egg.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development.
