Later today, Gearbox Software will launch the Borderlands 3 October 17 update, which is set to make a number of changes to this highly popular looter shooter. Among these changes are nerfs to some of the best Borderlands 3 legendary weapons as well as buffs to three of the four BL3 Vault Hunters. These buffs include improvements to Moze's Iron Bear, Zane's Digi-Clone, and FL4K's pets, but some fans suggest that the adjustments that have been made are missing the larger issue at hand.

More specifically, the Borderlands 3 October 17 hotfix will increase the health of Moze's Iron Bear by 50%, increase the health of FL4K's pets by 50%, and increase the health of Zane's Digi-Clone by 100%. According to Gearbox, the goal with these adjustments is to make these action skills "more viable" in the Borderlands 3 endgame, and indeed many players have suggested that these abilities need to scale more appropriately to be useful when tackling the game's most challenging content.

That said, some fans are skeptical that the health increases included in the Borderlands 3 October 17 patch will be enough of an improvement to encourage the use of Iron Bear, pets, and Digi-Clone in the endgame. On the game's official subreddit, players are suggesting that while the buffs may slightly prolong the use of these abilities, their damage also needs to be addressed if they are ever to become part of the best Borderlands 3 builds.

Fortunately, Gearbox has indicated that it intends to do exactly that, simply not at this time. In the patch notes for the BL3 October 17 update, it is stated that the developer is exploring "longer term solutions to scaling their damage" and that it will "have more to say about long term solutions for these characters in the future." While some Borderlands 3 players might prefer to see percentage-based damage buffs to these abilities now, comparable to the health increases that are coming later today, it seems that Gearbox feels something more involved is necessary.

Thus, players will be forced to make do with just health increases for Iron Bear, pets, and Digi-Clone for the time being. This may mean that most fans will continue to avoid using these action skills when approaching the endgame, but they may at least be happy to know that Gearbox has plans to further improve these Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters down the line.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
