Borderlands 3 introduces a ton of new content to the franchise, such as the ability to slide, new planets, and new guns, but that's not to say everything has changed. Shift Codes are back in the game and can be used to earn Golden Keys in BL3, but since the process isn't so straightforward, here's how to use Shift Codes in Borderlands 3.

How to Unlock Shift Codes

Before BL3 players can use Shift Codes, they will need to unlock them. This is a simple process, as players just need to navigate on the menu to the Social option, then over to Shift Codes option. Players will need to register a Shift account by entering a valid e-mail address and creating a password. Once that's done, players will be ready to use Shift Codes.

How to Use Shift Codes

Shift Codes are strings of numbers 5 sections long with 5 numbers/letters in each section. For example, here is one Shift Code that redeems 3 Golden Keys: ZFKJ3-TT3BB-JTBJT-T3JJT-JWX9H. Borderlands 3 players will need to diretly enter the codes, and while they are displayed as all capital letters, that shouldn't matter on the input screen. Once that's done, players will get mail (get there by tabbing right) and can claim the Golden Keys there. Takes these keys to the Gold chest, and voila, there's free loot.

How to Get Shift Codes

Because these Golden Keys will reward players with various high-rarity loot, including legendary items, Shift Codes are an important but rare resource. Shift Codes do expire after some time, so players will want to act quickly after getting their hands on them. The most direct method to acquiring Shift Codes is to follow any official Borderlands 3 or Gearbox Software account on social media, particularly Facebook or Twitter.

As always, however, this is only one method for acquiring rare and legendary loot. The most direct and common method is to grind bosses and rare enemies, which is how BL3 players get their hands on the Rick and Morty shotgun.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
