Not too long ago, Borderlands 3 developer Gearbox Software officially removed the curtain surrounding its first major story DLC, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. Players will be able to get their hands on this 7-8 hour DLC on December 19 and begin diving into all that it has to offer.

Of course, not every single detail about the DLC has been revealed yet, as Borderlands 3 will want to keep a few cards close to its chest. That's not to say next to nothing is known, though. From its initial reveal to a recent 13-minute gameplay dive, Gearbox has shown a little of its hand, one way or another.

Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot Story

As the name implies, this DLC is casino heist heralded by Moxxi. She hires the players to take on their heist to get some postmortem revenge against Jack, who is an ex-lover, like most of Moxxi's in-game targets. Handsome Jack stole her idea for this space cruiseliner/casino, so it makes sense to her for the players to take what's owed to her back.

The DLC begins when players enter the casino, with the digital Handsome Jack powering up the casino and putting the Vault hunters into extreme debt, something that may prove to play a big role in the story or just serve as a running gag. The Vault Hunters aren't alone, though, as the trailer seen above shows a few others who are seemingly helping out or are competing against the players for the rewards.

13 Minutes of Gameplay

Borderlands 3 recently revealed the first thirteen minutes of gameplay, giving players an decent look at the DLC. There's no major spoilers, nothing beyond anything confirmed so far, so it's pretty safe to watch for those interested but who want to remain as fresh as possible for the release of the DLC. It appears that the first boss of the game involves players taking out Third Rail and his gang who have taken up resident here.

Notably, the DLC shows players taking it on around level 20, so for those who want to try it out sooner but have only recently picked up the game (or getting it for Christmas), it won't take too long to start. However, for veteran players, this may raise some concern.

Level Cap?

As it stands, it doesn't seem that this DLC will be raising the level cap. Other than loot and perhaps the challenge of Mayhem 4, this offers little incentive for max-level characters to complete the DLC. It's possible there's an alternative offered to incentivize progression for these players, but that's not yet known. Of course, it's worth mentioning level increases came as different DLCs in Borderlands 2, so perhaps that will arrive shortly after this DLC. For now, fans can only watch and wait.

Loot

If there's one obvious factor to this Borderlands 3 story DLC, it's that it will include new loot. The DLC has shipped itself as the "biggest score of [the vault hunter's] loot-hunting career" complete with new legendary loot and Handsome Jack's "vault of loot." Including the word "vault" brings up some intriguing speculation, but for now, players should expect some new legendary loot. It's worth mentioning that the some specific loot for the Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite DLC was revealed with a couple of weeks to go, so maybe something more solid will be confirmed prior to launch.

Returning Character

There has been a major character confirmed to return in this DLC, but it's not Handsome Jack. It's Handsome Jack's playable body double from the Pre-Sequel whose original name he can no longer speak, but it rhymed with "Jimothy" (Timothy Lawrence). It'll be interesting to see what role he plays in the DLC, as he hasn't been seen since working under Jack in the Pre-Sequel, and it's unclear if he will be friend or foe. He's not to be confused with the holographic body double players fight in Borderlands 2, as Timothy underwent full cosmetic surgery to pay off his student debts.

More will likely be revealed in the coming days, so fans should keep an eye out for more details prior to launch. Regardless, there's about 12 days to go before the Borderlands 3 story DLC officially launches, allowing players ample time to explore everything released beforehand and after the launch.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
