Ever since Fortnite effectively broke down the barriers between PS4 and Xbox One with crossplay, fans the world over have requested it of their favorite games. Some games have launched with it, such as Call of Duty: Warzone, while others are awaiting updates like in Apex Legends. Now, among a plethora of other announcements, fans of Borderlands 3 now known when to expect crossplay.

Gearbox's PAX Online panel had a number of reveals, ranging from the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades for the game, a brand new DLC introducing new skill trees for each Vault Hunter, and more. In there is the official recognition that Borderlands 3 is working on crossplay, and that fans should expect to hear more next year.

Crossplay wasn't necessarily the crowned announcement among the panel, but it is something fans have been wanting to see. After all, there's nothing more unfortunate than a love for Borderlands 3 but friends who play on different platforms. This crossplay update will include all platforms, so for those playing on the current PS4 and Xbox One or on the PS5 and Xbox Series X will benefit from this new addition.

Hopefully, this means earlier in 2021, as while Borderlands 3 has outlined some intriguing announcements today, there's really nothing in the long-long term. It's uncertain what road Borderlands 3 is taking for the next year or so of support, but at the very least, fans can know to expect more on crossplay in 2021.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
