Since the reveal of Borderlands 3 at PAX East 2019, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been forthcoming with a number of details about the highly anticipated shooter. These details have included a tease about the Borderlands 3 map size, and Pitchford has now offered further clarification on several other aspects of the game.

To start, Pitchford has recently elaborated on the fact that Borderlands 3 will not have Slag, instead opting for a Radiation element that increases the vulnerability of those affected by it, as Slag does in previous entries in the franchise, combined with a damage over time effect. Specifically, Pitchford has clarified that the Corrosive element is still present in Borderlands 3, and it is not being replaced by this new DoT damage type.

With respect to the aforementioned transition from Slag to Radiation, some fans have also expressed concerns about losing the easily visible purple associated with Slag. These fans have inferred that Radiation will be represented by a yellow-green, which can be challenging for those that are color blind to distinguish. Pitchford has offered assurance that Borderlands 3 will feature a color blind mode to address this concern.

Next, Pitchford was recently asked if Borderlands 3 will feature more weapon colors and skin varieties than other games in the series. It has already been stated, in the Borderlands 3 trailer, that the game will have "over one billion guns," and it seems that there will be many cosmetic options as well, as Pitchford's reply was a simple "yes."

Speaking further on cosmetics, the Gearbox CEO has also provided more detail on the Echo Device skins that come with the Borderlands 3 Deluxe Edition. The indication here is that player characters will carry a physical device, the ECHOnet 3.0, and an equipped Echo skin will seemingly impact the UI in "every vending machine transaction, every menu transaction, etc."

While these new details may not majorly impact gameplay for every player, they continue to paint a more precise pictures of what the Borderlands 3 experience will be like. Fortunately for those that are excitedly awaiting additional information, the Borderlands 3 gameplay reveal, which is set for May 1, is certain to provide plenty.

Borderlands 3 is currently scheduled to release on September 13, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
