For many players, the core of the Borderlands 3 experience is undoubtedly earning legendary weapons, putting together overpowered builds, and instantly melting the game's many bosses. However, one player has taken on a challenge that acts as the exact antithesis to these core gameplay aspects, and they have come out victorious. Indeed, less than one week after the Borderlands 3 release date arrived, a determined Vault Hunter has completed the game equipped with only common gear and without using any skill points or action skills.

This Borderlands 3 challenge was completed by YouTuber Senza, and there is a link to a video that chronicles the experience below. To note, this video contains adult language and crass humor, and it is extremely heavy on spoilers. Players that may wish to avoid such content, or have not yet completed the BL3 main story, are thus advised to steer clear of this Borderlands 3 challenge video.

This is not the first time that Senza has completed a Borderlands-related challenge run, as the content creator was also able to beat Borderlands 2 using only common gear and without spending any skill points. That said, they do indicate that this Borderlands 3 challenge was "most definitely one of [their] hardest runs," and it took 34 hours of playtime to complete. Considering that the average completion time for BL3, according to data collecting website How Long to Beat, is 20 hours, this is quite an impressive figure.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Senza's Borderlands 3 Vault Hunter, FL4K, was only Level 37 at the end of the run. While the YouTuber does indicate that defeating some of the game's more challenging bosses did require them to do some additional leveling, they were still able to complete the game without reaching the level cap, despite the extreme restraint they had put on their character's overall power level.

As more time passes, players will definitely come up with an array of impressive and patience-testing Borderlands 3 challenge runs. Almost certainly, many of these runs will use rocket jumps in Borderlands 3 to quickly traverse maps in ways that Gearbox Software never intended. However, until more of these runs come to the fore, Senza's completion of the game with only white gear is certainly something to behold.

Borderlands 3 is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
