Borderlands 3 has had quite the week for updates and new content, with the first recently announced DLC pack, called Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. As the title suggests, both Mad Moxxi and Handsome Jack are going to be featured to some degree in the first round of story-focused DLC for Borderlands 3.
In addition to the story-focused content of this first-round of DLC, players will find challenging new mode in Borderlands 3 called Mayhem mode. More specifically, Mayhem mode level 4 will add quite a bit more challenge to the game, with additional health given to enemies in exchange for increased loot drop chances, new legendary loot, and a brand new set of class mods.
Mayhem 4 FL4K Build
First, let’s go over what new stats bosses will be packing in Mayhem 4. In this new mode, each boss will come equipped with an absurd 850% health boost, a 1000% shield boost, and a 1000% armor boost to really pad themselves out. Needless to say, it’s going to take quite a lot of firepower to topple the bosses present in Mayhem 4.
In this guide, players will be sticking with the character FL4K, despite his somewhat recent nerfs. The first piece of gear that players will need is the King’s Call Jakobs pistol with the shock elemental attribute and the ability that makes critical hits return three bullets to the gun’s magazine, as well as ricocheting three bullets at the nearest enemy. This specific pistol can be dropped from Tyreen the Destroyer. With this pistol, the shock attribute will whittle away the boss’ shield while every shot fired will be a critical hit.
Next up is the class mod players will need. Players will need to have the Venator Bounty Hunter mod which makes bosses get treated as Humans, Beasts, and Robotics for FL4K’s Hunt Skills. Additionally, the mod with come with an 18% boost to the weapon’s critical damage and a whopping 45% boost to any Jakobs weapons critical damage. This mod is what will make sure as many shots as possible are critical hits. If players are having trouble finding this exact mod, try to find one that has similar attributes or use an artifact to help make up for anything lacking.
FL4K’s Skill Tree
Next up, we’ll take a look at FL4K’s skill tree. For this critical-focused build, the main skilltrees players will focus on are the green Stalker tree and red Hunter tree, with only the Persistence Hunter skill of the blue Master tree being unlocked. For the green Stalker skilltree, players will want to make sure they take the Fast and the Furryous, Furious Attack, Hidden Machine, and The Power Inside. For the red Hunter tree, players want to have Two F4ng and Hunter’s Eye.
The next thing that players want to focus on is equipping the Fade Away action skill, which will not only cloak FL4K, but will make the three shots he fires a guaranteed critical hit. This makes it a perfect fit for our King’s Call pistol. The augments that will benefit Fade Away the most are Guerillas in the Mist and Unblinking Eye. This will help further balance out FL4K’s critical hit rate and damage output during Fade Away.
This critical-focused set-up is going to allow players to tear-down bosses shields in Mayhem 4, making quick work of many of the bosses present, like Captain Traunt. Players will want to keep an eye out for Captain Traunt’s loot drops, because he’ll drop an extremely powerful legendary weapon: the Tankman’s Shield sniper rifle.
