Without a doubt, there are still plenty of details left to unveil when it comes to Borderlands 3, especially since the forthcoming first-person shooter's box art was only just recently revealed several days ago. Speaking of the box art, though, it appears as if a fresh Twitch channel for Borderlands set up by 2K Games and Gearbox Software hosts an altered version of the third numbered game's cover, and it contains a secret message potentially hinting at a returning boss from the first installment in the series.

Whenever the new Borderlands channel isn't streaming gameplay and playthroughs from the older games in the franchise, the main image that gets displayed is Borderlands 3's cover art, and Morse code messages can be seen vertically running along the sides of this picture. After translation, the messages apparently read, "Where is the first Vault Hunter?" and "Who is the Destroyer?"

For those unaware, The Destroyer showed up as the final boss within the original Borderlands, and it appeared in the first game as a gigantic, one-eyed beast with a massive mouth and multiple tentacles and teeth. According to series lore, the Eridians imprisoned The Destroyer within the Vault thousands of years before humans settled on Pandora, but it ultimately cost them their entire civilization. Certain villains for Borderlands 3 have been revealed, but should The Destroyer return, there's no telling how they will all exist within the context of the sequel's story.

At the moment, it's unclear if these Morse code messages actually indicate The Destroyer coming back as a boss in Borderlands 3, especially since players were supposedly able to defeat it at the end of the first game. However, it's possible that The Destroyer seen in the original Borderlands was simply one version of the overall beast itself, and that a new form could return.

All things considered, there's always the possibility that these hints at the return of the first Vault Hunter and The Destroyer could come to fruition in the upcoming sequel, especially since Gearbox Software loaded Borderlands 3's teaser trailer with hidden messages that were verified thereafter. Nevertheless, we will simply have to wait for more information about the matter as the weeks and months press on toward Borderlands 3's release date.

Borderlands 3 is scheduled to launch on September 13, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
