Borderlands 3 has had something of a quiet summer so far, but a new in-game event is ending the drought with extra rewards and some quality of life tweaks. Lapsed vault hunters may want to revisit the title over the next week to take advantage of what is on offer.

Even though the Bounty of Blood DLC arrived just over a month ago, Borderlands 3 players are eager for fresh challenges and new loot. Gearbox had yet to release a Borderlands 3 content roll-out roadmap for the summer, but on July 30, a Twitch integration kicked off a string of celebratory events in honor of the titles' first anniversary. Now it is looking like eager vault hunters will have their hands full until Labor Day.

The central focus of the most recent update—the second event in the planned list of six—is bonus loot drops, as befitting a game where gear is king. Specifically, the patch will provide a week-long boost to legendary loot drops of all kinds after boss fights. The patch will also be bringing some buffs to certain weapons in the game.

Most of these tweaks entail flat damage increases, but others are receiving increased critical hit or chain projectile chances. Additionally, for players who have yet to take the plunge, this weekend Borderlands 3 is free-to-play on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, making this an ideal opportunity for new players to test the waters.

New loot is always a welcome addition, but it may not have the same magnetic draw in light of a recent glitch. Borderlands 3 players recently discovered a loot duplication cave allowing players to farm easy Eridium and quality armaments. The glitch has drawn comparisons to a similar exploit that existed in the early days of Destiny.

Despite the relative dearth of fresh content, the Borderlands 3 Twitter account recently asked players to pick their "vault hunter dream team" from the primary four vault hunters available in each title (four DLC vault hunters were excluded from the activity). While this is likely just another way to sustain player engagement and build hype for this week's events, one cannot help but wonder what kind of combinations players could pull off if every vault hunter from the franchise was available in a single title.

The Twitch extension, bonus boss loot, and free-to-play weekend are only the beginning of a series of six events celebrating Borderlands 3's first anniversary. Other events will include increased loot drops off variant enemies, bonus Eridium drops and discounts, access to all Easy Modifiers in Mayhem Mode, and finally, extra in-game cash drops. Even though the events aren't injecting any fresh content into the game, increased drops are a great way to thank the community for its support.

Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
