Borderlands 3 has been out for a while now. Thousands of enemies have been gunned down and bodies now litter Pandora and all the other planets. Despite the already massive player base, Borderlands 3 is still gaining new players.

Sure, some of these players may have picked up a Borderlands game before, but plenty of them are having their first experience at it. When starting the game, players learn a decent amount of information to help them on their way through across the galaxy, but there are plenty of things that the game doesn't tell players that they should probably know.

10 Class Mods Are Better Than They Seem

Class mods in borderlands 3 give points to skill that are unavailable and ignored

Throughout the game, players will pick up class mods to help boost the player's skills. Some players will look at these class mods and realize that they give points to skills they either didn't plan on grabbing or haven't unlocked yet. That is okay. Even if the skill isn't available normally, class mods will still boost it and act as though the player has that skill. Many players make builds knowing this information and purposefully leave it up to their class mod to give them access to a skill they don't feel like using points on.

9 Companies Send Mail

borderlands 3 players tend to miss the in game mail system

As players trek across Pandora and beyond, they will receive mail from the various gun companies. The game will notify the player when a company sends them mail, but it doesn't say exactly how players access it. Getting to the mail is actually really easy. All a player needs to do is pause the game and tab over to it in the menu. Pausing the game brings up a variety of online features like the social menu as well. Once a player is on the mail tab, they can select whatever mail they have received and retrieve their new weapons from their favorite gun manufacturers.

8 The Power Of Elemental Weapons

elemental weapons in borderlands 3 should always be used

Veteran players who are used to the gameplay of Borderlands know how amazing elemental weapons can be, but new players should pay attention. Players should try to stick to having a variety of elemental weapons instead of simply sticking to one element. Enemies throughout the game will have different health bar types and elemental weapons are the way around them. Enemies with shields can easily be taken down with a shock weapon. Enemies with yellow armor bars are easier to take down with corrosive weapons, and red health bars are easiest to take down with fire weapons.

7 Check Lost Loot Regularly

Borderlands 3 has a lost loot box for players who miss out on loot in the world

Sometimes players will end up running out of space in their backpacks or maybe the enemy's loot dropped in an unreachable spot. Players shouldn't worry about needing to drop weapons to make room for new ones since the game offers a lost loot system.

Near QuickChange station on Sanctuary is a large yellow machine that holds the loot that players couldn't pick up while on a planet. Interacting with this machine will drop the loot in front of it. Players should check this often since it does have a limit to how much it can hold.

6 Legendary Weapons Offer Secrets

Legendary weapons in borderlands 3 have secrets perks about them

At some point in the game, players will end up receiving their first legendary weapon. This can be an exciting moment, but also a confusing one. Each legendary item in the game has red flavor text that gives a hint to a special ability that the gun has. For instance, the Hellshock pistol seems rather straightforward. It states that it can switch between the fire and shock elements, but that isn't all it does. The text of the gun doesn't mention that the bullets from the Hellshock ricochet once and switch element after the ricochet.

5 Challenges Offer Rewards

Challenges in borderlands 3 offer rewards for players who complete them

There are various challenges that can be completed in Borderlands 3. Some of these challenges are crew challenges that can be found in the world. Completing these challenges will reward players with different items depending on who they're for. Completing hunts for Sir Hammerlock will grant players weapons. Other types of gameplay challenges can be found in the pause menu. These challenges grant players Eridium so that they can buy items from Crazy Earl's shop. Completing any of these challenges will also give players a small amount of experience.

4 It's Cheap To Respec

Borderlands 3 players can respec their character for the cost of 10% of their current cash

Those who have played Borderlands 2 will remember being able to respec their character, but it came at a cost. Each respec ended up costing the player more money over time. Things have changed a little bit in Borderlands 3. Now, players who want to respec can go to the QuickChange station on a planet or on Sanctuary and respec their character at the cost of 10% of their cash. With that being said, it is obviously better to purchase items like SDU slots first before investing in a respec. The option is still there for players who like to experiment with builds and change them often.

3 Use SHiFT Codes

Borderlands 3 players can use SHiFT codes to open the golden chest on sanctuary

SHiFT codes are something that Gearbox members tweet out regularly and post about on Facebook. These codes may not seem like much to new players, but veteran players will know to grab them whenever a new code is released.

On Sanctuary there is a large golden chest that stands out between the QuickChange Station and Marcus's shop. This chest can only be accessed by using the golden keys that are given out through SHiFT codes. Opening this chest will reward players with loot of their level and give out legendaries often.

2 Steal Cars To Get Parts

players can steal vehicles in borderlands 3 to unlock new parts

Players who venture down to the lower decks of Sanctuary will notice that there is a lot of empty space. In this large garage-like area, players will find hooks that mention that there are different parts to vehicles. Players will also notice that they can get different parts when customizing their vehicles. Completing Ellie's challenges will reward players with car parts, but they can also be obtained by stealing enemy vehicles. Hijacking an enemy's vehicle and driving back to the car stations will allow players to store the vehicle and possibly get a new part for that vehicle type.

1 Don't Buy Loot

Plenty of loot drops in borderlands 3 so players will never have to buy any

The Borderlands series has always advertised the insane amount of loot in the games. Borderlands 3 is no different with its boasting of having over a billion guns. Enemies will always be dropping loot for players to pick up. If players feel the need to buy their way to victory, they can always stop at a vending machine to purchase loot, but there is no need for that. With how many guns, shields, and other items the enemies drop, players will be well stocked up for the entire game. It's best to just use what drops and sell what isn't needed.
