Talking about the best grenade in Borderlands 3 is a bit difficult because there is a grenade that is easily the best, but it is also “broken.” The Porcelain Pipe Bomb is easily the most overpowered weapon in all of Borderlands 3, capable of reducing Vault Bosses to dust in a matter of seconds.
However, the best grenade in Borderlands 3 is also likely not working as intended, and will eventually be nerfed by developer Gearbox Software. It seems that the mini grenades that split off at impact deal more damage than they should and in some cases the effect is amplified to the point it taxes the console running Borderlands 3.
Why is the Storm Front Grenade So Good
So, assuming the Porcelain Pipe Bomb is getting nerfed, the best grenade in Borderlands 3 comes down to personal preference, but our choice is the Storm Front Legendary grenade. This grenade sends out “tentacles” of lightning upon detonation, which can damage enemies in a wide radius. Moreover, the weapons shock elemental damage allows it to quickly burst shields on any enemy and free them up for some quick hits.
How to Get the Storm Front Grenade
To get the Storm Front grenade players will want to seek out Captain Traunt on Athenas. This boss is one of the first challenges that players will face in Borderlands 3, and those that are under leveled or don’t have adequate gear will get shut down by Traunt.
On every Traunt kill, players will have a chance to receive the Storm Front Grenade from the boss kill loot explosion. It’s a legendary so the chances are slim, and have been made slimmer by the Borderlands 3 loot nerf, but players should go in on at least Mayhem 1 in order to increase their chances.
Captain Traunt is a relatively easy boss if players have a weapon with high shock damage for shield break. Something like the Lyuda sniper rifle can shred through Traunt’s shield and then normal damage will finish him off. Then players just have to hope that the Storm Front grenade drops while farming other legendary weapons in the process.
As mentioned, the Storm Front Grenade is one of the best options for AOE (area of effect) damage and clearing out large groups of enemies. Because shields can sometimes hinder a Borderlands 3 player’s ability to shred through enemies quickly, it’s a great option.
