Borderlands 3 recently saw the announcement of a second season of DLC content, with the arrival of a Designer’s Cut and Director’s Cut also confirmed. While the latter is not coming until 2021, the Designer’s Cut is right around the corner and will be bringing a new game mode and skill trees to the game on November 10.

Numerous details have been revealed regarding the skill trees for Fl4k and Amara via a special early look from GameSpot. While players will need to wait to hear more about Zane and Moze, fans of the Hunter and Siren have a good idea what to expect. With the skill trees arriving with the next-gen versions of Borderlands 3, players will be able to dive right into the new content as soon as they get their consoles.

Amara’s new skill tree seems to be living up to all its potential. Titled “Enlightened Force,” the skill tree will provide the extra action skill “Phaseflare” for the Borderlands 3 character. Phaseflare will create “an orb of elemental energy” that deals elemental damage to all nearby enemies. One particularly strong skill highlighted in the preview is “Glow Up,” which changes Amara’s Phaseflare orb into a healing ability as opposed to dealing damage.

The ability to make Amara a healer is interesting, but for players who prefer to deal out damage rather than defend against it, the “Shooting Star” skill that fires additional elemental orbs at injured enemies should be useful. The last major Amara skill highlighted in the preview was “Light Fantastic,” which makes the orb travel to the last enemy attacked by Amara. The rest of the preview focused on Fl4k, and while no answers are provided on Fl4k’s mysterious backstory, this new skill tree certainly seems powerful.

Fl4k’s new tree is called “Trapper,” and it is aptly named given the “Gravity Snare” action. The skill launches enemies up into the air and keeps them floating in a way that resembles Rocket Raccoon’s mines in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, allowing foes to be taken out easily by Fl4k or his new ion loader pet. Teased back with the original Borderlands 3 skill tree announcement, the pet comes with a sniper rifle that can trigger a shock nova. The tree features skills like “Wide Net” that extend the Snare’s range and duration, and “Forage” which makes enemies drop ammo and boosters when snared.

With a skill called “Blind With Anger” that makes the traps confuse enemies and makes them fight each other, as well as a “Trap Card” skill that makes Fl4k toss a trap when entering a downed state, the Hunter’s new tree seems powerful. Both Amara and Fl4k’s extra abilities should prove useful within Borderlands 3’s Arms Race game mode, which will also be released as DLC on November 10.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades coming as the new consoles launch.
