New reports from 2K Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive show Borderlands 3 to be the publisher's fastest selling game to date, with an impressive number of sales since releasing in 2019. While other games in the series like Borderlands 2 and its DLC have outsold the latest title overall, the most recent title has gotten off the ground faster than any other title published by 2K Games so far.

The implication of this sales figure is that given the same amount of time, remasters, and bundles that previous titles have had to accumulate more sales, Borderlands 3 could wind up surpassing all other titles in the series. This is a trend that developer Gearbox and publisher 2K Games will certainly want to continue on into the future as the series continues to set up for more numbered releases and spin-offs in the future.

According to this reporting, Borderlands 3 has sold nearly 14 million units across all platforms between the initial launch in September 2019 through October 2021. This accounts for almost 20% of all sales for the series across the three numbered titles and the spin-off Borderlands titles or side games, such as Tales from the Borderlands or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The total sales themselves aren't entirely surprising against the rest of the series, but the rate at which copies are being sold is a clear showing that players have been eager to jump back into the long-running franchise after the success of Borderlands 2.

To compare the overall sales across the sales, however, the report also points out that Borderlands 2 is currently the top-selling title under the 2K Games umbrella with over 25 million sales across all platforms. So, while Borderlands 3 fans haven't grown the game quite to that same goal, it is still on pace to possibly surpass that impressive milestone over a similar amount of time. Regardless of how it compares, these are still incredible sales numbers that show continued success of the series as it continues to grow over a decade after the franchise's first release.

Looking at how ready fans have already been to support the Borderlands franchise, 2K Games likely isn't looking to keep the game dormant the way it was between the second and third title for very long. However, in the meantime before Borderlands 4, fans will likely continue to see spin-off titles like Tiny Tina's Wonderland test the waters for fan-favorite characters and side content. Regardless, a series like Borderlands acting as the publisher's most popular titles is a sure sign that fans will continue to see more content get produced as long as people still want to play these games.

Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
