A massive patch for Borderlands 2 went live early yesterday morning and brought with it many changes including a fix for any, and hopefully all, Badass Rank problems, as well as some save file freezing and crashing that had been pervading both console versions. For a lot of Borderlands 2 players this marks their first opportunity to head back into the wasteland of Pandora, while for others it reacquaints them with their hard earned goodies.
While these are two of the more pressing issues gamers have been waiting to have addressed by Gearbox Software there are plenty of other tweaks and changes contained within the patch including subtle balance adjustments to Borderlands 2‘s arsenal of weapons.
Unfortunately, along with bringing many a welcome fix to Borderlands 2, the patch has also delivered a few new issues to those who had been adventuring problem free. Many, however, are reporting a nearly three month dry spell is finally over, as the patch has rectified their save file problems. For a full list of the update’s changes make sure to head to page 2.
These important fixes couldn’t come at a better time either, as rumors of a third Borderlands 2 expansion have appeared — a byproduct of a PS3 trophy listing update. The DLC, reportedly titled ‘Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt,’ will supposedly bring new locations to the game, along with new hunting-themed side quests.
Of the game’s promised 4 DLC expansions — all part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass — two have released thus far, making Hammerlock the third. There currently is no release date for the DLC, but comments from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford to X-Play suggested gamers might see it before the end of the year. Our only hope is that, in terms of quality, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt features a more story-focused experience than the most recent DLC, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage.
And for those gamers who have found the DLC to be decidedly devoid of that lovable, single-wheeled robot Claptrap, Gearbox Software has begun rolling out episodes for season 2 of their web series, which focuses specifically on the character’s post-Borderlands exploits. As you’ll see in Episodes 1 & 2 (included below) Claptrap is still the affable buffoon seen in both Borderlands games, only now he’s struggling to find a source of employment.
The first season of Claptrap’s web series focused primarily on poking fun at celebrity antics like the Christian Bale tirade on the set of Terminator: Salvation, whereas this new season is much more its own creation. It still has that reality TV feel to it, only with subtler forms of parody.
And finally we bring news of Borderlands 2 ringtones — yes, you read that right — which are now available for die-hard Borderlands fans to program into their iPhone and Android devices. What is available at the moment are two packs — one themed around Claptrap and one around Mr. Torgue — that feature tracks that can be used as ringtones or even as a text/notification tone. Both packs can be downloaded here.
Have all of your Borderlands 2 problems been fixed by the new update? What do you think of season 2 of Claptrap’s web series?
Borderlands 2 is out now for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
