Although pre-E3 2019 rumors kind of ruined the surprise, developer Gearbox Software revealed a fifth and free DLC expansion for Borderlands 2. Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary serves as a bridge story before the highly anticipated Borderlands 3 hits store shelves in September. In addition to more quests, enemies, and an all-new story, the expansion also added plenty of loot including the effervescent/rainbow rarity level for gear and weapons.

Naturally, since these items are now the best loot in Borderlands 2, they're not easy to find. That's especially true for the effervescent Toothpick assault rifle, which still confuses many players on the exact way to trigger the drop. Either way, there is a farming method many players have taken since the DLC launched which has higher than normal odds to get the high powered weapon to drop.

Inside of the Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC, players will need to speak to Vaughn to obtain his side mission called The Hunt is Vaughn. If it's not accessible, players will likely either need to progress in the story a bit more or tackle some of his other side missions first. During The Hunt is Vaughn, players will eventually come up against Sand Worm enemies.

This section of the mission is the best chance to get these effervescent/rainbow rarity weapons such as the Toothpick to drop. The assault rifle in question can drop from any of the sandworm enemies, but the Queen variants have the best odds of the bunch. Keep in mind that if the mission is completed and the game saves, only the basic sand worms show up in this area going forward. While the drop odds are a bit lower than the Queens, players should instead restart their game before finishing the mission to attempt to farm the Queen Sand Worms as many times as needed.

Gearbox made sure to load the new DLC with new rainbow tier weapons, many of which are found through various methods like beating the new raid boss called Haderax. One of the more unique weapons, which players saw briefly in the trailer for the DLC, is the Unicornsplosion shotgun. Instead of a standard shotgun spread, this weapon fires explosive Butt Stallions, one of Handsome Jack's more interesting purchases from the base campaign.

Borderlands 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
