Gearbox's popular looter-shooter Borderlands 2 is slowly regaining popularity, despite its 2012 launch, due to the fact that it has recently been released as a free game from Epic Games, as part of The Handsome Collection. Despite the game's age, players will still find themselves struggling to stay alive as they fight off swarms of psychos and creatures, as the sheer number of minions will sometimes overwhelm the player. In order to rectify this, take advantage of the game's wide variety of healing features, some of which are hidden within the descriptions, and others which are obvious solutions.

In Borderlands 2, the player is able to loot healing syringes for a burst of instant health, the amount varying based on the syringe found. These healing items can also be purchased from Dr. Zed's healing machines, located around each of the extensive maps. These items are known as "Health Now," an item that will heal an instant 25% of the player's health, and the "Rejuvinator," which will quickly regenerate health over 20 seconds. Although these are the common and obvious healing tools within the game, they are far from the only ways to heal in Borderlands 2.

Certain characters within Borderlands 2 allow for increased health regeneration when building particular skill trees, such as Maya, Zero, Kreig and Gaige. Each of these characters allow for a passive healing ability that is usually associated with their hero power, such as Maya's "Sweet Release." This item on her Harmony skill tree allows the player to steal damage from phaselocked enemies and turn the damage into healing for themselves and teammates.

On the other hand, Krieg has a passive ability that allows him to completely regenerate his health whenever he kills an enemy while in rage mode. Krieg's skill is unique because players do not have to build any specific items in their skill tree to obtain this ability, which gives users more freedom to build their character.

Many players have come across certain weapons and shields that will also grant healing to their users, based off the damage dealt to enemies. For example, Moxxi's Rubi pistol will heal the user 12% of the damage that they inflict, including self damage and damage dealt by explosive barrels. This weapon's elemental affects as well as this healing aspect make it one of the more valuable guns in the game, and is specifically accessible as a reward for the "Rakkaholics Anonymous" side quest. The quest is recommended for players that are level 21 or above, so lower level players should keep an eye out for specific shields that can similarly increase health regeneration.

Because of the constant updates to the Borderlands franchise, there are always new ways to heal through various shields and guns, as well as through skill trees for new heroes. Although none of these items guarantee that players will always be able to heal themselves within a fight, Borderlands 2 does a great job of spawning health vials when they are most needed, and have also strategically placed health machines around the map to keep users alive. Because of the customizable builds in the game, Gearbox has made it significantly easier to stay alive in their game, despite the fact that most healing items are only usable when the player is low on health.

Borderlands 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One through The Handsome Collection.
