In a game loaded with sophisticated and off-kilter weapons, many Borderlands 2 players find the more classic, bare-bones Jakobs a refreshing change of pace. And speaking of pacing — these weapons are often regarded for their satisfyingly quick fire rate. In fact, the manufacturer boasts that most of the weapons the brand can be fired as quickly as gunslingers can pull the trigger. This comes in handy given the frantic, action-packed nature of this RPG shooter.

Not only this, but Jakobs also tend to excel in accuracy and damage output, making them a good choice for sharp-shooting snipers. While their minimal nature and burst-firing mechanics may not be for everyone, Jakobs guns can be both fun and impactful, particularly in the early and middle portions of the game. Here are some of the most powerful and efficient to opt for.

10 Cobra

Borderlands 2 Cobra stat card

Being a rare example of an elemental Jakobs sniper — and a rare drop in general — this weapon is a coveted choice for those who delve into the explosive DLC Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. It can occasionally be dropped from a biker of Pete's burners.

Not only is the weapon powerful and fairly accurate, but its projectiles also unleash explosive projectiles that deal splash damage. This gives it a versatility that somewhat doubles as a potent sniper and a damage-over-time crowd control gun. Add this to the critical bonus, and the Cobra can really dish out some prolonged pain. Naturally, this deadly, chaotic weapon is a favorite of the anarchist Tiny Tina, as the flavor text on the stat card provides one of her quotes.

9 Muckamuck

While it's hindered a tad by its rough recoil and low fire rate, the Muckamuck shines as one of the best Jakobs snipers in Borderlands 2 as well as The Pre-Sequel. Its crazy damage output and pinpoint accuracy make it a favorite for long-range shooters and Zero players.

The sharp, steady aim of the weapon makes it relatively simple to pull off criticals. This is useful given its sizable boost in critical damage.

8 Coach Gun

While it can be common in terms of rarity, the Coach Gun can really be exploited with the right builds and circumstances. For instance, Gaige's Anarchy really makes great use of this shotty as the frequent reloads of the small magazine size allows for quick gains in stacks.

The high damage and pellet count from this double-barreled shotty can dish out loads of pain fairly quickly. It's not one of the most glamorous guns, but it certainly gets the job done from close and mid-range.

7 Skullmasher

While this carryover from the original Borderlands has been outshined by flashier weapons, it can still more than hold its own. It can deceptively pack quite the punch despite lacking bells and whistles.

At the same time, this doesn't exactly bear the hallmarks of a typical sniper, given its decreased accuracy and five-projectiles fired per shot. The Skullmasher is particularly great for beefier foes and bosses, as its scattershot can do some insane damage assuming they all connect. It can most often be found from Wildlife Exploitation Preserve's Son of Mothrakk, and from Rakkanoth in Scylla's Grove in Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt.

6 Triquetra

This shotgun is "unique" both in the sense of its rarity and its characteristics. Naturally, it fires off three potent projectiles in a "triquetra" pattern, dealing major damage in fairly short bursts.

It's also especially great when exploited by Gaige's Anarchy build. This is because the multiple fixed shots allow her to pile up loads of damage while the spread alleviates worry about accuracy. Frequent reloading aside, there's much to appreciate about this boomstick.

The Triquetra is obtained in the optional ECHO Recorder mission, Clan War: End of the Rainbow.

5 Orphan Maker

A twisted variant on the already-potent Coach Gun, this fittingly-named Jakobs blasts enemies with insane amounts of damage — though at a minor cost. In addition to a small magazine size, the cursed weapon inflicts its user with a smidgen of damage for every shot. Specifically, it dishes out 5% of the weapon's damage rating. This tends to make it better for players who favor ambushes or scrambling to cover.

Still, it's a small price to pay for a shotgun that's as powerful, swift, and accurate as this one. With the right circumstances and exploits, the Orphan Maker can be one of the most impactful shottys in the game. It's obtained from the Captain Scarlett mission, Message in a Bottle, which resides in Oasis.

4 Gatling Gun

This assault rifle utterly pelts foes with loads of damage, thanks to its rapid, minigun-style barrel. As it can come in the common (green) rarity, the Gatling Gun can be obtained relatively early and easily, allowing players to plow through weaker baddies.

Even with its semi-automatic nature, the fire rate of this beast is insane, especially given its lack of a wind-up time to get spinning. This trait, along with its three-projectile shots, means that the Gatling Gun is an ammo glutton. Still, it's definitely worth it given how much damage it swiftly can crank out. It's optimal for unloading on larger enemies and potent bosses in particular.

3 Twister

When it comes to rare elemental guns from Jakobs, it's tough to beat this electrified weapon of destruction. The always-Shock shotty fires a cluster of spherical projectiles that swiftly turn into electric tornadoes of death.

These rotating spheres will blaze a trail that can plow right through hordes of foes, making it a crowd-control gem. This unique feature gives it a bit of a learning curve, but it can be devastating for those who make good use of it — especially against shielded baddies. The weapon can be found as a rare drop from Omnd-Omnd-Ohk in Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt.

2 Maggie

This oldschool revolver is a great representation of the classic, minimal nature of Jakobs, to be sure. It's fitting then, that it's easily one of the best the manufacturer has to offer. This pistol can be found most often as a drop from Mick Zaford in The Dust.

Its damage output is sky-high, which is largely thanks to its whopping six-projectile shots. Add this to the fact that gun-slingers can fire a breakneck speed, and the Maggie quickly becomes a DPS monster, pistol or otherwise. Its spread and decreased accuracy don't make it too reliable at a distance. At close or medium range, though, it operates like a swift, compact shotgun in terms of raw power.

1 Bekah

Borderlands 2 Bekah stat card

While the Bekah has made its return in Borderlands 3, it doesn't quite match the glory days of its pearlescent cousin from BL2. Being a drop from Tubby foes — and only when hitting level 61 with Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack Two, this is a late-game pickup that won't come easily.

Still, it's definitely worth the wait and the grind to obtain, as it's almost undoubtedly the strongest, most efficient Jakobs gun. It's all-around solid in most areas, but especially when it comes to its insane DPS. Fired shots disperse into three projectiles, which accelerate and inflict massive damage on its targets. This spread allows it to shine when it comes to clearing out hordes of nearby foes from close and medium range.
